Trigger MMultiband Harmonizer with midi track

Anyone have a link or advise on how to get this to work in Cubase 8?

I have an MMH loaded in an Effects channel and the vocal is routed to it no problem - but when I "send" the midi track to the same effect channel it does not trigger the harmonizer.

I'm am new to Cubase so I think I might be "Sending" the Audio from the midi instrument rather than the midi data - how do I fix that?
