...not sure about the "pumping," not occurring here...did you sidechain the pink noise?...not sure how to send you the mp3 file...

Well at least I call it pumping, since it does not sound natural. Maybe "overcompressed" would be a bit better word. I followed you instructions and rendered the sound:

Is this how it is supposed to sound?

...yup, that's about it...too compressed? backoff the dials to suit to taste...the source dynamic range is in fact quite large, is that a typical situation?
So, try using the "two stage" thing, the "compression" should/could be far less obvious. (obtw, I agree with you)...hth.../s~

Luckily this is not a typical situation, yeah, hehe. Still: even with less dynamics I cannot find the best settings which fit my needs.
But seriously: maybe I just want too much from the plugin and it's not possible to get the reuslt I posted before, where I mixed by hand?

You could cut up the stem and use some form of "clip-gain" avoiding any compression altogether, but, as you observe very time consuming/etc. Controlling dynamics is compression/expansion or "dynamic gain" that's about it.
So, another possibility would be to cut up the stem and us MLoudnessAnalizer in batch mode. That would cut the labor/time in half at least...hth.../s~

I’ve been experimenting with MAV more and I’ve found the the default noise gate settings can cause pumping sounds. Recently I’ve preferred the no attenuation mode. With the gate on, when there is a break in the sound the level drops 6 to 12 db or more. If the next sound is quiet that means MAV need to jump up around 14 or 18 db, which of course sounds like pumping. Setting it to no attenuation makes it reset to 0 gain, so the next movement won’t be so large.
From there I adjust the speed and after that the look ahead. I use the wave graph to see if everything is being caught correctly. From there I increase or decrease the sensitivity until it sounds right. Of course wild jumps in volume are hard to deal with. I’d either use 2 instances of MAV or MAV and a compressor. One to catch the peaks and the other to gentle ride the gain.

Hey Chandler, thanks for these hints. I will try to look at those things!
Really appreciate all your help, people. This is soooo the best and nicest community I've ever been with, seriously!

I didn't read the topic really, but there's no way there could be separate attack & release, because there actually isn't a traditional level follower, it works in a rather different way (secret ).
