W9 multi-sampler, BioTek 2 settings question

Hello,

I have a couple of questions, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction?

1.) Can the multi-sampler handle GM Soundfonts? How do you change instruments?

2.) I am in the process of trying the demo on Linux and Windows. In the bundles I downloaded, it came with BioTek 1. BioTek 1 registered fine on both platforms and has presets. After using the check for updates, I downloaded BioTek 2 and content files. BioTek 2 and content seemed to install fine (as in a gui launches) and registered fine (blast of white noise is gone, and countdown timer is active). I have installed the content file on both Linux and Windows, but I am not getting presets for either platform. Any ideas of what is going on or how to fix it?

I am new to tracktion software so if I have missed the obvious, I apologize.

Thank you,
David

Hi David,

I am the developer of BioTek and can help you with question 2:

BioTek 2 has a dedicated browser page rather than the narrow list on the left of the Wild page showing the presets. Click on the folder icon to view that browser page. Maybe that's already all you wanted to know. If not, read on.

BioTek 2 allows you to set custom paths for the factory and user instruments, sounds and samples. You can set them in the global menu, which you can access by clicking on the little cog wheel in the top right. If the paths are all empty, these default paths are used, each followed by a subfolder called Instruments, Sounds and Samples:

Mac:
/Library/Audio/Presets/Tracktion/BioTek/ (factory presets)
~/Library/Audio/Presets/Tracktion/BioTek/ (user presets)

Windows:
C:\ProgramData\Tracktion\BioTek\ (factory presets)
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Tracktion\BioTek\ (user presets)

Linux:
~/Tracktion/BioTek/ (factory and user presets)

Check if at least the factory folders contain instruments and samples and, if you have set different paths, make sure the global settings in BioTek 2 use these paths.

Best wishes,

Wolfram

Wolfram,

Thank you for the reply, it got me straightened out. First, I was assuming the same view as BioTek 1 with regard to the browser...so there is that.
The second part that got me was the way the initial render of the gui was displayed. It had defaulted to the wild view, and the 'Unlock/days remaining' was displayed over top the folder button, so it didn't appear that there was a button there.

Even though the content was in the default linux location, I had to put the paths in under the settings. Someone else had mentioned that in another forum post and that saved me from hitting that snag.

Its a really nice looking and sounding plugin.

thanks again,
David

Hi David,

great to hear that you like it. I have fixed the misplaced unlock button for the next version of BioTek 2. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Best wishes,

Wolfram
