[Ableton Live] How do you overlap velocity map for several layers and play them randomly?

In Ableton I can make a pad in Drum Rack that plays sample according to the incoming velocity by creating Velocity Mapping in Instrument Rack.

But how do you make a pad that have overlapping velocity mapping and pick a layer randomly for more realistic result?

Probably picture explains itself.

Thanks.

I don´t know a better way ...so:

Depends with what your are playing (Sampler, Native Synths or VSTi) I would automate or randomize (via M4L LFO with a random waveform and a slow rate) the Sample/Chain Selector...
With a busy pattern with many overlapping notes, I would split it up on multiple tracks where you can select, which notes are going onto which "Layer")...
I think, this is the easiest way... there you have much better control to get exactly, what you are after respectfully, which notes are played by which sound

Or simply use a VSTi like Kontakt that can play random samples...

It will require split velocity range where 1 sample, 2 samples, 3 samples overlapping and open simpler/sampler in Instrument Rack to select Chain by random LFO, right?

I will adopt the idea when I'm going to make complex layers. I'm currently trying to make a ordinary drum pads.

Yeah....

There are 2 ways I can imagine...
1. You want to have both: Velocity split and random sample playback
Then you would need multiple layers per velocity zone, which are further split by the Sample selector if we are speaking about Sampler
2. Just random sample playback: just throw the samples in and define them with the sample selector...

No matter, which way you choose, afterwards (to stay with the examples of Sampler) you automate the sample selector with an automation lane (gives you more control) or you assign an M4L LFO with a random waveform to the sample selector in this Sampler...
I haven´t tried that before, I don´t know, how sampler behaves if the sample selector chooses a different sample while the old one is playing, so you have to try, at which rate this LFO modulation works best

Basically there is a 2b. method...
If you don´t need the velocity layers you can nevertheless define them like you already did in your example and throw the Velocity Midi FX before... set this to randomize the incoming velocity from your clip... for this method, I think it´s better to turn off or lower the velocity to volume modulation in Sampler...
This way, different samples would be triggered randomly everytime a new note is triggered (what you normaly want)

Sometimes, i.e. for quite similar percussion or hihat sounds, what may work quite well too, is to use the arpeggiator with it´s random play modes for triggering different sounds respectfully creating complex and variation rich patterns...
For this method you just throw in your samples and map them chromatiaclly over the keyboard
I will adopt the idea when I'm going to make complex layers. I'm currently trying to make a ordinary drum pads.
Nevertheless, this method works brilliant for i.e. pads and leads and gives nice controlled variation...

Yeah....

I think I found a way to do like 1 with 2b's simplicity. While Velocity midi effect generates random vel value, 'Random' generates random key. This random generator pass through velocity info. It requires to make vel map divided to "sound A", "A-B overlapping", "A-B-C overlapping", "B-C overlapping", "B-C-D overlapping" and crate drum rack in all layers behind 'Random'. .... So much hassle and it seems not practical for complicated vel mapping but it can replicates if it it is simple.

Thanks for the tips. I got many ideas. :)
