MDrummer: Can there be variations in beats (midi command method)?
Beat, 4 example verse: It (the pattern) is the same each times it is being played, isn't it? Wouldn't a drummer ad some rolls or some off beats or whatever? Is there a way for "switch variations on"?

A beat is assigned by default to several MIDI notes. Each MIDI notes has variations of the beat. There are white notes in there which very possibly can be programmed. Maybe every note can be reprogrammed. Maybe the range can be extended beyond 5 octaves.
Alternatively, if the Level percentage was exported via VST to the host, then it would be possible to automate it and bring changes to the beats, if I understood the principle correctly.

Load a factory rhythm. Select a break.
See the index panel to the right of the keyboard with all the numbers. Click on the different numbers. See the variations of the break in the loop editor. See how the different varitions are triggered by the velocity of the command in your DAW (indicated by the text in brackets in the Loop Editor ribbon).
Now, for factory rhythms, beats (as opposed to breaks) don't tend to have these variations but you can create your own, either manually (click the add button in that index panel then write a loop) or by importing existing loops; factory or ones you have saved (Rhythm Editor> Edit> Import/Export> Load multiple loops). With this method you can import say loops from the breaks category (which have lots of index variations) into your beats category....you end up with beats with many variations.
By going back and forth with all this (importing/ editing/saving) you can gradually build your own folders of loops that you like.

Yes every note can be programmed. Range (octaves) can't be extended.mevla wrote:A beat is assigned by default to several MIDI notes. Each MIDI notes has variations of the beat. The level % is already there in your commands...C-1 up to B-1 is increasing levels. The different levels (commands) trigger different loopboxes (the keys in MD). But within each triggered loopbox (MD keyboard key) you can have many different variations trriggered by command velocity (see my previous post)...or you can turn that off and just have random variations (Rhythm Editor> Settings> Additional> click 'Random loops').
Note that there is not a direct relationship between command note and loopbox key. MD intelligently works it out. E.G. say you have written 12 ascending commands but don't have all loopboxes programmed; MD looks at the command level then directs it to the nearest loopbox. If equidistant from the loopbox above and below I think it plays the one above (have to check that).
BTW, re random loops: in DAW midi editor, zero velocity (or minimum) on a command will enable random loops (from the index box) when random loops button is off...so you could have say most of your arrangement defined with velocity linked to index but at certain points (specific commands) have random on.

Great, I forgot the boxes, thanks. As I see MDrummer switches between the loops in a box automatically and and in a random mode (?).goldglob wrote: Now, for factory rhythms, beats (as opposed to breaks) don't tend to have these variations but you can create your own, either manually ...

You can also make it switch randomly by giving a note 0 velocity. I prefer that method because you can then have some parts of your song random and some part chosen. I want to do a video about this in the future, but it might be a while.blommberg wrote:Great, I forgot the boxes, thanks.
