Hi,
some questions after upgrading:
1. Is Biotek content compatible to Biotek 2 content (the suffixes are different)
2. If so, is Biotek content a subset of Biotek 2 content?
3. Are Biotek instruments compatible to Biotek 2 instruments?
3. Biotek 2: In the path definitions (global) there is a path to 'sounds'. Is that the location to the samples? There is no specific folder 'sounds'.
4. How can I tell Biotek to use a specific path for sample and instruments?
...
Puuhh, something forgotten?

Hi midklang,

I don't understand all of your individual sub-questions, but:

- BioTek 2 loads BioTek 1 instruments, since it is a new, expanded and improved version.
- Sounds are layers of the loaded instrument. You can save a sound of an instrument from the Sound page and load it into another instrument. This way you can create layers easily.
- Samples must either reside in the preset or user sample path (maybe called public and private in your version) to access them. You can also drag&drop a sample onto an oscillator; this automatically copies the sample to the user sample folder.

Best wishes,

Wolfram

Hi Wolfram, thank you for the reply.
Background of the question is the thought, if there is any reason to keep Biotek plus content live at the system (In the BackUp it will remain).
I have not managed till now to load one of my Biotek instruments to Biotek 2, but I argue that is me. :)

If I save a Biotek instrument to the private instrument folder of Biotek 2, I am not able to load that instrument.
Is this the wrong way to do?

It does appear that the private folder is just for user samples and all instruments have to go in the same instruments folder.

Hi jabe,
Global - Locations, there are settings for Preset Instruments and User Instruments.
Another strange thing with the path:
If I select in the Browser 'Wolfram' as Author, only two instruments will be shown. But if I have a look at the instrunents folder at my drive, there is an instrument subfolder 'Wolfram' containing lots of instruments. So I argued, subfolders will not be read by the Biotek 2 Browser.
But if I set 'Wolfram' as Preset Instrument folder, the Browser will not change and is insisting on only two instruments for Wolfram.
I think there is something broken with user defined path settings.

Just recognized: The 'Global - Locations' structure of Collective is similar to the one in Biotek 2. And Collective is doing in a way I suspect.
...
Sorry to say: only as long as Tracktion/Collective has not been closed. After closing Tracktion and restart it is the same mirracle, the user defined instruments are missing.
Tomorrow I will try an alternative DAW.

It appears BioTek version 1 gets the name for the author tag from the file itself. I just edited an instrument file, changed the author name, and saved it under a different name, and the new name appeared as a searchable tag. Don't know whether than helps at all.

Unfortunately not.
Biotek and Collective definitely have a problem with filestructure.
I tried Collective on a different system with the same result.
Last try will be not to use my catalog non system drive 'G' for keeping all the instrument and sample stuff but the predetermined pathway at 'C' drive.

Hi everyone,

may I suggest that everyone updates to the latest beta versions of BioTek (V1.7.4), BioTek 2 (V2.1.0) and Collective (V1.1.8). In older versions custom preset and user paths (aka public and private paths) weren't always shown in the instrument browser.

I checked it here with BioTek 2 V2.1.0 and when I type my first name into the search field, all my instruments appear. This works for both the default paths and user defined ones.

And, BioTek 2 happily shows and loads BioTek 1 instruments with the older extension ".biotekinstrument".

Best wishes,

Wolfram

Hi Wolfram,
Biotek 2.1. looks fine now (I hope you've got some sleep last night :) ).
By the way: Very nice the installer that gives me the possibility to choose where to install, and when performing an update the installer will keep these pathes in mind :tu: .
But now the same please with collective ( 1.1.8 ) . If I set a user defined path for instruments and samples and move the standard path Collective will show an empty browser.
(I hope it is ok to move the dll to where I keep all my instruments)

Hi midklang,

sorry, yes, Collective V1.1.8 doesn't respect custom paths. Please stay tuned for the next version.
