My thought?
1) drivel --> TL;DR
2) you could have just edited that other (locked) thread

I have a Virus TI and most of my favourite trance and psytrance tracks were made circa 2005-2010 with heavy use of Virus. To my ears, Viper and Spire do hypersaw just as good as Virus, I doubt any sample library could give you any better authencity. The classic Virus trance leads are not only about the hypersaw as such, the filters and effects also play a very important role. Viper's filters and effects are 99% spot on, I don't think Kontakt's ones are anywhere near.
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

To the OP, too bad you didnt know about JP6K and Viper before you started this thread. Just as you, I have been obsessed with the Supersaw/Hypersaw sounds. Why dont you try them before making this false assumptions that "synth creator" Vsts dont sound good? Spoiler: Your virus an JP are also digital synths, just closed in a box. Spoiler number two, sampled Supersaw/Hypersaw will NEVER EVER sounds as good as a coded ones, so yeah even the crappy synth creator vsts will sounds much better than kontakt libraries of a Supersaw.

Same here, used to own a TI Snow years ago. To my ears, many VST's out there produce "supersaws" that sound just fine. Of course, if you sample, it's not going to be as flexible or accurate, unless you sample every note at every detune spread setting... Better to use algorithms, which most VST's do.recursive one wrote:I have a Virus TI and most of my favourite trance and psytrance tracks were made circa 2005-2010 with heavy use of Virus. I don't have Spire, but Viper is indeed probably the best Virus Hypersaw emulator in terms of being faithful to the original. The only thing it's missing is Hard Sync of the Hypersaw waveform (pretty sure the TI supports this). The same developer has also done a recreation of the JP-8000 supersaw (which sounds and works different from the Virus). But really, there are a whole bunch of VST's with similar waveforms and you wouldn't be able to tell them apart in a mix. Sylenth1, Hive, Diva, Dune 2, Spire, Serum, Saurus...
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

I have a virus TI snow, if I was software only and if I could sell it I would and replace it with viper but I would probs get comeback as it’s so buggy and not worth the hassle and I can’t be arsed with the hassle of someone that doesn’t understand the virus TI issues.
For me viper nails the sound of the virus very well, enough for me to consider selling mines if I was software only. My virus looks good, sounds great but is a complete PITA to work with in regards to DAW, I both love and hate it at times. As it’s a snow also it’s not really a real hardware synth in regards to the tweakability.
The hypersaw is something viper does very convincingly, in my quick demo of it you can almost go like for like value wise with patches, and they will sound very similar indeed. The distortions are also very similar and very convincing. The reverb is the only thing with viper that felt/sounded very different to me although good in its own right.
IMO Adam has done a superb job with this VST, and I wish him all the success in the world with it and hope enough peeps buy it to allow him to support continued development of it. He has achieved something very special indeed here.
Viper is also a feckin insane bargain considering it’s power.
Don’t get me wrong I love the virus and it’s sound I love it. Would I buy another virus today if I was in the market?, yes I would a full sized TI. would I buy another snow ? Nope, no way. I would run an old pc running viper and serum into whatever I was using instead.
I would for the record personally use viper myself over any kontakt virus library it would get closer in regards to the filter section, fx etc which is also a huge part of the virus sound.
Good luck Adam.
