Hi!

If I get it right a convolution reverb works like this:

Take sample from input and apply the convolution algortithm to the first sample of the IR, then on the second an so on. Repeat that for every sample of the input. So the length of the output is the input length plus the IR length.

But I want to imprint the sound characteristics of a one-shot sample on the whole input. The idea is to use a long (pad-like) sound and turn it into a short (pluck- or drum-like) sound. So we have this procedure:

Take first sample from input and apply the convolution algortithm to the first sample of the IR, then take the second sample from the input for the the second an so on. Now the output is as long as the IR unless the input is shorter than the IR. In the latter case the output will end abruptly.

Is this possible with MConvolutionMB? If not, are there any other Melda plugins that allow me to do thos?

Why don't you just try it? Download a demo copy and take it for a drive.

I'm not sure from your description just what it is you're trying to accomplish. However, you can convolve any two digital audio signals, although it would not be unreasonable for a convolver to limit the length of one of them (the impulse signal) to no more than a few dozen seconds. Convolution is most often used for reverb, but it can excel at all kinds of special FX applications.

What you're describing here (if I've got it right) sounds somewhat similar to vocoding. Process window 1 of the input with window 1 of the IR, process window 2 of the input with window 2 of the IR, and so on? You might like to look at MMorph in that case. It's (broadly speaking) a high resolution spectral vocoder.

Melda's plugins have so many knobs etc but a documentation that doesn't answer all quetsions, so I thought that it's easier for me to ask. Lazy bummer I am ;)

I tried to load a crash sample into IR reverbs and fed a pad into it. Got a nice reverb out of it. Hardly suprising if you think about it. Could work though if I feed the reverb only with short bursts.

Right. I tried MVocoder with a high number of bands to some success. Didn't sound really satisfying. But that could be because of ill chosen samples etc.

I watched the teaser video and what it did was blending the sounds (in a fantastic way). But a setting of 100% for one source always sounded like the original source. Or is there a setup not shown in the video to make it work like vocoder?

At 100% a morph plugin will sound like a single source. It’s around the 50% mark where you’ll get most of morphed sound.

You want MMorph really (MVocoder should get you something too). Convolution unfortunatelly doesn't work like that. It more like "prints the IR into every sample", good for reverbs, cabinets, mikes and interestingly just about any static filter, but that's about it. Complex morphing needs quite some adaptive approach.
