I'm trying to see if it's possible to create some simple controls to define custom shape contours for a modulator envelope.

I tried attaching a point's position to the MP by setting the MP to "learn", and clicking on/moving the point. That didn't work (no parameter shows up as being attached), though I'm not quite sure whether that means it's not possible, or if I'm simply missing some other approach.

Basically, is the position of a point in the custom shape window something that can be controlled via MP?

So far, none I've tried are having any visible effect.

Is there any method to determine which point is which? In other words, if there are a bunch of points on the custom shape for the attack, a bunch more on custom shape for release, is there any way to look at the release custom shape window, and identify a given point as being Point 7, point 8, or whatever?

Is that maybe the wrong "custom shape" section? They do seem to be in order, as it's followed by "follower," "random," etc... rather than being in the section for "envelope" which makes me wonder if it is instead the "custom shape" in the "normal" section.

Doesn't appear to be another one for the release shape, though, or any differentiation between the custom shape for attack or release.

In any case, I've tried many points now in either attack or release, and none of them are moving.

My mistake - that Custom Shape section is for the "Shape" modulator - that is named "Normal" on the GUI. Not for the ADSR Custom Shape.

Yeah, I was able to verify that as well late last night.

Very odd that essentially everything I can see within the modulator is attachable as a parameter, including multiple windows with custom shape tools and all their bits. Hundreds of parameters in all, I think...

.... with the only exception I can see apparently being the one window I want to automate.

Bummer.

Most people never automate anything, so it's relative.

It's the most flexible part of the whole thing. Basic ADSR controls are much more limited which is likely why tools like ShaperBox, LFOTool, Vengeance Multiband Sidechain, Kickstart, etc. now dominate dance production.

I would guess that that the kind of person who is drawn to tweak something is also likely the kind of person who is drawn to the flexible part of that thing. Geeks will, after all, be geeks.

Just odd, that's all. It's seems exactly the same as all the other custom shape windows... every other one of which in the Modulator has fully accessible parameters which in itself is mind-boggling. Strikes me as an oversight as opposed to purposeful omission since there's no functional differentiator that I can see.

Obviously, that observation is based not on any expectation of what a plug in general might include, but rather on how extensible every other element in the modulator is, so by comparison.

I just mean it's a tool whose entire appeal is it's hackability...

... which is also why I'd guess it's not particularly popular among Waves One Knob enthusiasts....

... who are more likely wonder why you'd want to hack any of it.
