What about these weirdos who claim to learn music by ear ... eh?

for most people who dont what dykem is
The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

Clearly, he is a very talented man. If he blocks up his eyes and doesn't accidentally give himself a hernia, maybe paint could come out his ears. Ideally, he'll want paint coming out of every possible orifice so that he can produce multiple works simultaneously.

surely the act in itself would be performance art, id pay to see a guy squirt paint out of every orifice.

Like a GG Allin tribute act.

But with paint.

Let's put all your theories to a scientific test...

Step 1. Pull up an unmixed song.
Step 2. Turn off your headphones and speakers.
Step 3. Open up all your visual aides and tools.
Step 4. Mix the song using only meters, analyzers, scopes, etc.
Step 5. After you're done, explain how the song translates and makes you feel?

Now try this exact same test while you start a song from scratch.

Sure.

And let's follow it up with a second test:

Step 1. Pull up an unmixed song with your eyes closed.
Step 2. Open up all of your plugin instruments and effects with your eyes closed.
Step 3. Tweak the instrument settings and effects parameters with your eyes closed.
Step 4. Set up Microphones and adjust record levels with your eyes closed.
Step 5. After you're done, compare how long it took you to perform the first test with how long it took to perform the second test. Also note any injuries received from tripping over cords, cymbal stands etc.

Personally, I use both my ears and my eyes when playing, recording and mixing music. I tend to think that most people do. But everyone is different.

Humans have a tendency to make up excuses where their logic fails.

I didn't realise that archaic patriarchal booleanism still existed. I thought that had been eradicated long ago.
In todays enlightened society, I would suggest that true and false are simply social constructs and one should be allowed to assign any boolean value one likes. So the question is moot.

Humans have a tendency to make up excuses where their logic fails.
They also tend to think they have created a compelling argument when they are just making things up.

But generalities aside, what is your actual argument? So far, I have seen nothing remotely resembling a logical demonstration.

I wasn't aware that it had ever existed.

What is (or was) It?

Me too. I trip over cymbal stands when my eyes are open. I have even sprained my feet on them. A music studio is no place to go about with your eyes closed.

And to be honest, I always listen to music with my eyes closed. Frequently I turn the lights off. When I think I am done with a mix, I will definitely listen to it with eyes closed, just to concentrate on the overall sonic impression.

But I will be damned if I will adjust an eq's cutoff with my eyes closed. It makes no sense.
