MXXX: Creating a brickwall limiter from components

I'm almost, but not quite able to get what I'm looking for out of the limiter module.

The two things I'd like to set differently are:

1) Fully linear threshold behavior. (Even with the most accurate correction graph I can make, it's still throwing off the results).

2) A fixed (non-threshold dependent) knee with a greater range of values (user assignable to at least 12dB)


It just occurred to ma that I might be able to use MXXX to CREATE the limiter I want vs trying to force the limiter module to do something for which it wasn't designed. I've never built a limiter from scratch, so just trying to think it through at the moment.

I'm always using lookahead, zero attack, and the fastest possible release, so is it really effectively different from a clipper at that point? Is there some secret sauce in that 1ms of release? (I'd set it even lower if I could, so I guess that's a third item I'd like to change).

It may technically be a clipper I'm describing, but is there something more sophisticated going on under the hood in the limiter module I'm not seeing, or would just creating a threshold and knee within a waveshaper with some gain staging to mimic the ceiling achieve the same sonic quality output as the dedicated module (if the module had a 0 release option)? Or... if it is more complex, and some of the timing or other nuances are still necessary to get the sound, is is still doable with the available components?

I'm always using "clean" and "log" mode, if that matters.

Perhaps I should also mention that despite several Google searches (and reading through 10+ pages of the results), I still have no idea where the preset exchange is. Maybe I'm just using the wrong search terms, but as near as I can tell, it exists only in some speakeasy parallel dimension, so if someone has already built this, I'd appreciate a nudge in that general direction.

Ahhh... that would explain why no website was popping up. Odd that one can sift through page after page of Google results without this ever popping up. Lots of references to it, but the description itself is buried at best. How are those with offline machines handling this?

Thx. Makes sense now, but of the dozens of references I searched and read, not one of them mentioned that it was integrated into the plug, so I was searching for a web page, checking subdomains for KVR, MeldaProduction, etc. Oddly, Googling the exact term doesn't produce a description, but rather many forum posts, changelogs, and page after page of individual plug pages. Apparently, it must never be mentioned on a dedicated page, so it's always buried.

Got it now, though.

So did I. Several times. Might have been some poor luck involved, but after reading through a number of pages of results, it was a case study in... whatever the opposite of SEO is.

Not sure I follow how the name a clue. It was specifically the name "Online Preset Exchange" that made me picture a website.... like Facebook Exchange, Craigslist, my HOA's exchange, Ebay, Etsy, barter exchanges, utility exchanges, etc.

... all of which are online exchanges, and all of which are websites. Still trying to think if I've ever used an online exchange that wasn't.

Doesn't matter, I guess... but having a production machine offline appears to.
