I would like to use that as a replacement for classic shortwave pieces like Stockhausens Kurzwellen. To get the ancient atmosphere I would need some sounds which resemble shortwaves inbetween the stations. Kind of searching a station with a big knob and get randomly an arbitrary station. That would be a cool addition over just hitting a random station knob...
But maybe I have to build it myself in Max/MSP...

Would love that. I went to quite some length to try and replicate that kind of effect in one of my pieces, a long time back. Pretty sure I used a long sample of a radio being tuned, and Match Eq.

Would love something like that in Reaktor :tu:

Just found this. Doesn't really capture the desired effect, but is great in it's own right :tu:

So! Where are all the 80's stations, then?

There is still shortwave out there, but for performances its not enough, and most people use samples which reproduces the sound quality but not the basic idea: something happening on the other side of the world is coming in live...
Very often venues block out much of the shortwaves also...
The reaktor ensemble doesn't even come close unfortunately, I need a physical modeled shortwave recever...

Radio plugin is a pretty versatile tool, you can e.g. get inspiration of some single sample you have picket from the stream.

One possibility is a collage, which consinst samples - BTW very commond way today make "music".

I choose rapidly about 15 samples all from different genre radio stations.
I found from one classical music station a very beautiful piano melody, which is in the centre of the collage, I repeat it a couple of times.

All the sounds of this collage are samples from the radio stream.
I edited the samples and included effects, mainly from the Reaktor 6 fx, but used a couple of reverbs and e.g. separated the lady vocals and created 3-part harmony, which I use in the middle of the piece, added by reverb.

Like I said, I do think the Reaktor ensemble is a good little effect in it's own right.

Based on everyone's input in this post, and developer's commitment, I reconsidered. After trying it out, I bought it. There's a good amount of non-mainstream content you can morph into non-identifiable audio. And the ability to add custom streams helps, since I can add freeform radio which is great for reference.

Lots of possible improvements, already mentioned, so looking forward to them.

Okay - we have a beta of this. The way it's implemented is to pause for a couple of minute (by muting and stopping the recording) then after that timeout it completely disconnects. That keeps it responsive.

I'll get it tested over the next week before we make the update available.

Good news! Please tell me this functionality will also be available in the standalone version :tu:

Yes, I missed the update - but better late than never, I guess.
