The internet has really become a silly place last couple of years.

Slate has my fullest respect when it comes to their plugins. Yeah, the guy himself can come across like an over-enthusiastic sales-guy at times - which I guess attracts people who think that dissing something is a measure of being cool.

He is running a company that have made my jaw drop more than a few times :tu:

Hasn't the internet always been a silly place though?
And you've been around KVR from the beginning. Some might argue that KVR, for example, has become less silly overall compared to the sort of craziness and arguments that took place here in the early years!

As for Slate, I agree with you - he's an intelligent fellow who seems to believe very passionately about his products. It can come across as over zealous behaviour, but I think most producers will know he means it honestly and at least he is still looking for ways to develop the industry further.
(And no, I don't own a single Slate product because I prefer other products instead, but I can recognize someone with passion for the music industry and his role in it).

If someone sends a cease and desist, you can bet that post is coming down. No-one is going to stick their neck out for Billy Noname. But until then or it's really obvious, not much is going to happen. And I can't see much that's actionable in that thread.

Indeed, threats of 'libel' are often chucked around by people who don't understand the law or the financial practicalities in going to court, and one party needing to win.

What's with all the accusations suddenly being fired at the KVR mods for no good reason?
His behaviour over there + over here* is what could get him in trouble. I can bet anything that every single word posted on such forums is kept for quite some time, even if 'deleted' from the thread where it was dumped.

*So it's a full scale campaign against Slate. Whether it's libel only - a lawyer worth his job can find a lot more into this.

And the companies running those forums are obliged to abide by the law, or can be taken down - now that's serious!

Hahaha... you are spot on! KvR is actually nowhere near what it used to be. I mean today it's even possible to post a question about Nexus and get a serious reply   and the "does it sound like a Virus" threads are quite rare these days.

Yep yep. KvR have really shaped up. I wonder how that happened. Maybe they moved to Gearslutz? :) The moderation in this place have always been a bit... sporadic if you know what I mean.

But I really think there is some kind of misconception that if you are shouting and dissing something with flaming passion - then you come across as someone who knows his sh!t. It's just so utterly boring. And it's so weird. People posting crazy negative posts in threads they aren't even connected with. Just now I was at Synthopia reading about the latest update for the Deluge, and some genius posted something about people should get a laptop instead. I mean... I really don't understand why some people spend their time posting nonconstructive sh!t about things that doesn't even concern them. I just don't get it.

If his behaviour has been defamatory or breaching of forum rules, then it should get taken down.
In my experience, the KVR mods (and ultimately Ben) are more than aware of this and act in good time to remove said posts.

You made a point about libel being a criminal law matter. It is not.
Secondly, explain clearly what ''Whether it's libel only - a lawyer worth his job can find a lot more into this'' means.
To be fair, your opinion about libel matters has not been convincing so far.

@DrGonzo: absolutely!
I find that most people on internet forums are very reasonable and can see a balanced argument even if they disagree with some of it. However, one occasionally finds oneself at the end of a ranting, foul-mouthed, insulting chav who can only see what they want to see, and then get angrier and angrier when people increasingly disagree with them (because of their conduct). I found one such idiot directing his ire at me last night on my football club's forum, before he promptly got himself banned for going too far and the mods getting sick of him.

God this thread is tiresome.

Post

The whole topic is tiresome. There'll always be a handful of people voicing their minority opinion on the net. Best to ignore them, and make decisions on your own, than to regard some mother figure, which always knows best for you on the net.

It's a subtle kind of terror, no doubt about that.

we dont need one of these threads let alone two, now we have none
