Well, it's still the most popular and used desktop based operating system on the planet... and that hasn't changed since Windows 10 release over two years ago (which they initially gave away for free)... There's good reasons for that...
I guess if you're counting every single PC out there. But the audio community is a very tech savvy industry and most people stay up to date on the latest and greatest technology available. The need for fast processors, tons of RAM and other optimizations also includes a 64 bit operating system.

I would guess that most people in the professional audio industry are using Windows 10, 64 bit, 8-16 GB of RAM and probably an SSD drive. Anything less would be for the bedroom hobbyist that probably isn't really serious enough to commit to the requirements in this day and age.

But whatever works for you, I think Windows XP is still #3 most used operating system, but that stat could have changed. I just wouldn't expect a company to maintain it much longer, just like 32 bit and VST2.

IMHO. using Windows 7 for music production in 2018 and beyond is a bit of a gamble.

Most developers will not bother extensively testing their product/DAW on Windows 7. I use Studio One Pro 4 on PC/Windows 8.1 Pro, and have no issues, it's very stable, and have no graphics related issues, all working great. I plan to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro next year.

Whose still on windows 7. Companies haven given you plenty time to adapt to the new stuff.

Yeah, I really like the Drum Editor. So much easier than trying to paint in the right note on an enormous piano roll that spans 10 octaves when you only have like 8 drum samples....and trying to remember whether you put that crash on D3 or D# 3... The way it integrates with Impact XT and shows the actual sample names is great. Being able to select a time divisor and just click and drag is also great for hi-hats etc.

But the instrument pattern mode just seems to get in the way for me, especially since you can't move or copy+paste notes.

Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Not upgraded yet, nothing really of substance in the new version for me. Will wait and see if the 4.5 brings anything more interesting.

I'm still trying to figure out how to drag chords out from the chord wheel, into a track.

My advice is don’t try too long - this isn’t a feature.

The chord track in Studio One is really a reharmonization tool. It won’t play chords like Cubase does.

Never tried it yet! Wonder why??

There was a thead on the Presonus forums on this, a thread on KVR (originally in Instruments, since moved to Hosts), and another post in this thread. It doesn't do what you want it to dude. Time to give up on that one for now or just stick to Cubase where you can do that.

Some of the absolute A list professionals? :D

I get what you are saying, but it's also nice to appreciate the "don't fix it if it isn't broken" mentality found surprisingly often at the very top, in the most demanding audio/music environments. Junkie XL's soundtrack production rig is still on Windows 7, for example. He's one of the most tech-heavy guys around, so it would sound a bit hollow quipping "welll he's just behind the times" or similar.

When there's no actual technical need to switch OS revisions, some don't feel the need to do it "just because." Undoubtedly more and more actual technical needs will crop up. This doesn't mean it's constructive to brush off anyone using an older system just because there is a new one available; it also means you brush off some major players in that same motion.

No, I'm not happy until they fix the high-DPI "support" which is half-baked, ie. works for the DAW itself, but doesn't for 3rd party VST plugins :(

High-DPI "support" ON gives me tiny plugins (Surface Pro 4, 12'' screen):

High-DPI "support" OFF results in blurry Studio One GUI:

Open both in separate browser tab, blow them up to full screen & compare. Live until v10 had exactly the same issue, but they've fixed it.

Yes, Studio One 4 is pretty much unusable for me on the surface for that reason (but BWS is much better suited anyway with its dedicated tablet mode). On my main 32inch 4K monitor its OK as the vast majority of VST's scale now, but every now and again I open one I use a lot (like Dune 2) and its tiny! In this regard the display much better before the update, but I realy like all the other aspects of the update and an optimistic for a new update/fix soon with the 'real' ARA2 integration as well! From past experience we will get a lot of cool new stuff in the 4.X cycle.....
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I hope so. I even have sent to S1's developer a Microsoft document that explains how this should be done, which I got from Ableton devs :D

I'm perfectly happy with Studio One 4! I don't have a 4k Monitor, so that is not an issue for me. All of the new features are very nice to have and I am sure that they will only get better with future updates. I like the the Chord track and how it works on both MIDI and audio tracks. Impact XT is much improved over the previous version. I also find the Drum Editor and Patterns with variations much easier to work with than the old piano roll method. Overall it was well worth the upgrade cost for me.

Well the demo expired a few months back so I'm making the comparison to the free Prime version. Here's Studio One 3.56 and 4.0... Both 1080P resolutions.
