Turning off MP's?

I see in the menu for available parameters for an MP to control that each MP has "enable" as it's first parameter (Listed before Parameter 1 value, max value, etc). Turning it on or off appears to have no effect on data passing through the parameter, though.

1) What exactly is that "enable" enabling/disabling?

2) Is there a way to turn off an MP so that it does not react to changes?

The reason I'm asking (and it would be a bit complex to do a mockup, so hopefully I can explain this easily), is that I have a mode switch (log/linear, etc) where each mode also controls it's own chain of modulators, so I want only the chain that matches the selection to be active while the others become inactive.

I am currently manually checking / unchecking the individual parameter assignments from the master MP as the check/uncheck does not appear to be automateable.

Is there a better overall approach for this?

Hmm, you're right. A disabled MP still does its thing. The Info says" Enabled switch enables/disables the multiparameter. If disabled, it is grayed on the easy screen. "

Seems like a bug to me.

It only disables the control on the easy screen. If you are in edit mode, it will work as normal.

But even when disabled on the Easy screen (or in its own Appearance panel) and either Easy or Edit screen is displayed the MP still works, changing its target parameters

OK, so that would appear to be a dead end.

The basic concept I'm trying to emulate is:

MP1 feeds 4 others, but only 1 should be active at any given time, so manually switching means checking the parameter assignment for 1, and unchecking the other 3.

The larger purpose here is to conserve resources by using the same modulator at the end of all 4 chains rather than having 4 separate chains with the modulators in each enabled/disabled, so is there some other way to emulate this that does not involve additional modulators?

I don't think it's possible to just have 4 different settings on the same output because it's switching log/linear/square/cubic modes, and each option requires a separate correction curve... which means it requires 4 separate translation layer MP's as targets since I have no way (that I know of) of switching between translation curves on the same MP. Probably TMI, and again, none of this would be necessary if there were a checkbox to enable linear behavior / disable hidden and inaccessible translation curves. Just thinking through that the 4 separate outputs are actually necessary vs the much simpler case of just having 4 non-interpolated settings on the same parameter controlled by a switch.

The Enable feature is there really only for the easy screen GUI design. It doesn't block the MP or anything (which would actually lead to some specific consequences in some more complex scenarios involving changing active presets from MXXX etc.).

I seem to recall that you used to have the ability to turn on/off the first four modulation targets individually. That is, within the MP edit screen, the targets are listed and there are check boxes next to them (same with modulators, of course). Was there once a way to control via another MP the checked state of those targets (or at least the first four)? I just looked while in MSoundFactory and there seems no way to do it now, but then maybe my aging brain just is losing it. :D

I don't think enabling targets was ever possible, but who knows in the millions of features :D

Well, I was probably just remembering something that I once wished for ... and I still think it would be a most useful capability if you ever have time to get around to it.
