Linux MDrummer and Bitwig : MIDI channel 2

Hello Vojtech,

Remeber the troubleshooting of not too long ago when I sent you debug logs and you found out that Bitwig was sending on MIDI channel 2 and thus, MDrummer would need to be on channel 2 also ? Well, I am demoing Sample Tank 3 and it behaves exactly the same, except a bit worse as it the MIDI channel will move from 2, 3 and 4 as notes are being played.

So MDrummer is not alone in this. Although these two plugins are the only ones showing this behaviour. Bitwig support on their side is certain that they are sending on channel 1.

Both MDrummer and ST3 are running fine in the Harrison Mixbus32C DAW on the same system.

I followed-up with Bitwig on this.

And, insert a MIDI Monitor immediately in front of MDrummer / ST3 to double-check the channel of the MIDI notes.

IK Multimedia do not support Linux.

For that matter, Melda does not support Linux but Vojtech is nice enough to have spent some time going producing a MDrummer debug version and going through debug logs I sent him.

I do not expect every company to be doing that regarding operating systems that they do not support and where their products do not run natively. Would you ?

Regarding the MIDI monitor: I have several thousand dollars of plugins running in both native Linux format and Windows VST (using the exact same linvst bridge) that works just fine. Only MDrummer and ST3 are showing this.

Considering this, what are the odds of having a MIDI monitor that will not show MIDI channel 1 ? This is what I am trying to tell Bitwig support also.

So far my opinion is leaning towards a question when taking into account the reaction of these two plugins in other contexts as well as how Bitwig handles 99% of the plugins.

The question is: is there anything that a VST plugin can send to Bitwig that will make Bitwig change its MIDI channel ?

I have asked this two times now at Bitwig support. Last time they replied that it could be a user error....

One interesting common thing with both of these products from different compagnies is that both have two modes of opeartion: a MIDI note mode (command mode for MDrummer) and a pad mode.

And for both, pad mode works immediately whereas for command/note mode the plugin has to be switched on MIDI channel 2.

Whatever is required in software development of such plugins that supports both note and pad modes have been seemingly implemented in the same way in MDrummer and ST3. And provokes the same reaction in Bitwig Linux. And not in the Harrison Mixbus32C DAW.
