I guess it is in the manual somewhere but I thought a Tracktion expert might explain it better.

How do I set up ST2LE in Tracktion so that I use use the multiple channels. I would like to be able to use it to playback bass and strings and so on in the one song.

Thanks

Put it in a rack. :D
Put the rack on all the tracks you want to play ST2LE.
That way you can have one midi channel/track.
Total 16 sounds at the same time from ST.

Post

But how do you tell the individual tracks which channel to output to so that ST2LE will recieve the midi data from the correct track.

Post

Sampletanks parts usally corresponds to a midi channel - part 1 = Midi ch 1

Just change the midi channel in your track to match the correct part/midi channel in ST2.
And use the rack function for the sampler.

Post

if you want to use other plugins on individual tracks (up to 8 stereo in ST2LE), you have to do more than change midi channels, you also have to change the outputs per rack filter instance. If you just want to use the s-tank effects, just changing midi channel is ok. go check out Valley's manual on setting up RF's at www.adbe.org , that will get you sorted.

That is what I don't know how to do. How do I change the output channel of a midi track?

Just been having a faff with suchlikes meself. LOOKS like ye canna! Channel appears to be on a per clip basis. Not only that but the ruddy option dissappears when you try selecting multiple clips!

Looks like you have to make sure you keep the channels correct for all your clips individually!

Any gurus about to confirm this?

yes, it is a bit... awkward.

Not a guru here, but all the multi-out plugins I've used/seen should be assigned from within the plugin - if it supports multiout, that is. It has nothing to do with the host afaik.

But there is nowhere in the plug itself to specify which track goes to which channel in the vsti. I'm stumped :(

not correct for tracktion, though. Once again, guys, Valley has a tutorial at adbe.org for setting up multiple outs using racks. I do it regularly with ST2.

multiple out is no problem. Also there is a tutorial for setting up multiple in vsts but not for vsti's that recieve midi.

Hi morelia,

I will explain what I do. There are two methods that will do what you are after. I don't have my DAW in front of me, so I will do my best 8) .

Method one-

with this method, you can assign different instruments from ST to different midi channels, and use the internal fx on a per part basis, but any filters use use in tracktion will affect all the sounds coming from ST.

1- load ST on track one. Load up some sounds, say, piano on channel one, bass channel two, strings channel three. NBote that in the ST mixer page (the red section, channel corresponds to midi by default (1-16) but this can be changed.

2- now, click on track two in tracktion, go to the box just to the left of the transport, which deals with outputs and signal routing. t should now have a tick next to either 'default audio output' or, whatever your soundcard is. change it to track one.

*Now, track two outputs to track one. DO the same for track three*

3- go back to track one, by connecting your midi controller to it in Tracktion. note that when you have selected your midi controller, the box under the edit page has some variable related to it. one of them is midi channel, and it is likely defaulted to 'all'. Change it to '1'. You can play now and here the piano. You can now record a track there, and the MIDICLIP will be sending to midi channel one.

4- OK, now, move you midi cont. icon to track two. This time, change its midi channel to two. You can now play and here bass. Record on track two. Do the same on track three, changing the midi channel on the controller options to three, so you play and record the strings.

SO, you basically set up a track per midi channel, and adjust the sending midi channel on your controller interface in tracktion. all extra tracks have their output set to the first track, which contains the ST2 plug.

Hope that is clear???!?!?

Well. I think morelia's referring to how to assign different channel to different output. That can only be done inside of the plugin itself afaik...and I haven't seen one isn't so. Or did I misread again? :P

If he's referring to multi-timbrality, that's already explained by others in the above posts...
