@bsp804: I think the current schedule is to release Rack v2 along with a VST version at around $60-100 in ~12 months. Rack v2 standalone will be BSD/LGPL to keep encouraging plugin developers and standalone users, but the VST version will be financially supported by users who are more likely to make money with the software (i.e. producers who don't have time to mess with non-DAW software). VCV Bridge will be discontinued, but since it's also open-source, others are able to maintain its support if they wish.

Ok, thanks for the info.
You could also keep the plugin version open source and make money with the binaries (there are other projects who are doing it this way).
Don't forget to sign a contract with Steinberg if you want to sell a VST2 version after October 2018.

I saw in a tweet on the website (I think) something about VCV Host (at Knobcon?) but I can’t find any information anywhere else.
Any chance to share a link or more info?
Thank you.

I also tried to take a look after reading it in the newsletter but couldn't really find anything else about it on the web.
Can't wait to try it. Besides Valhalla stuff I was also thinking about "correction" tools like eqs and compressors.

First off, VCV Rack and its library is almost definitely the most impressive free (and a lot of paid) vst i've ever seen.
Though there's one thing that puzzles me a bit - I know this is probably an incredibly old and common feature request, but what are the chances for selecting multiple rack elements to move/delete/copy(with internal routing intact) them without having to do it tediously and time-consuming one-by-one? Especially with the standalone or bridge not allowing multiple instances, that seems like a huge quality of life requirement if you want to do something basic like add another voice or layer.
This somewhat relates to the idea of having saving/loading of subsections (which would make the rack management, you know, modular) which would also cut down a ton of mindless re-building or creating dozens of slightly varying templates.
Or is this an intentional design restriction to make it harder for people to build racks that would quickly set their cpu(s) on fire?

I can't answer for what might change in Rack, but the Submarine Utilities' Module Browser lets you merge patches which might help a bit for the time being. YMMV but I have found it is a good idea to make sure you don't have more than audio module in a patch as a result (delete before merging not after).RoadCrewWorker wrote: Sun Oct 28, 2018 12:08 pm First off, VCV Rack and its library is almost definitely the most impressive free (and a lot of paid) vst i've ever seen.

Is multiple audio modules known to cause issues? In the bridge version i've used 6-10 Midi In and Audio modules using distinct ports to set up separate synth voices.
The only time i've ran into consistent hard-crash issues is when i try to load a patch in the bridged version while a DAW is trying to send data through the ports.

A couple of times I merged two patches and then found I couldn't delete either audio module. Maybe others haven't had a problem though; it hasn't been raised as an issue on its GitHub.
I do recall Andrew saying on FB a while ago now that using more than one Audio module was experimental.

Here's a first look at VCV Host, an upcoming module for loading VST plugins in VCV Rack.
This is the first complete patch using CV modulation of a VST in VCV Host. The open-source DX7 emulator "Dexed" is loaded and exposes many parameters such as operator level, tuning, and release time to VCV Rack control voltages. These are controlled by Fundamental LFOs and Audible Instruments Random Sampler. There is no MIDI involved. This VST instrument plugin is being "played" with 1V/oct CV and gate signals, just like Eurorack oscillators.

So useful and kind of a gamechanger in my opinion. Looking forward to that.
On another note, about the paid VST version whenever it'll be released, I hope the GUI can be expanded on multiple-screens, for people with 2-3 screens setups. This is possible on the current standalone version and I really enjoy it, but If I think of VSTs with drag-and-drop resizeable interface (inside a DAW like REAPER at least) they can't usually be expanded outside a single screen. Don't know if this can be avoided or not
