Indeed, it's possible--and often useful--to have both audio and MIDI clips on the same track.

All I do it click on the track input and hold it for a second, and a list of possible inputs show up. Select the one I want and done. I get the OP's request, but agree with zzz00m on the overall workflow issue. There are ways to arm a series of inputs quickly and easily, so I have a hunch this is just not going to make the soon-to-implement list.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.

Its the use of the mouse that I am trying to avoid. Its possible with some DAWs to just use the PC keyboard in much the same way as hardware. I had found a way around this with virtual inputs, and switching channels from my keyboard controller. But then this week I bought a new keyboard controller and have yet to find how to change channels easily. Manual reading time again !

Another complication - Waveform allows you to have MIDI and audio input on the same track at the same time - necessary (or at least easier) if you want to have plugins that use both MIDI and audio inputs in parallel.

(Auto-tune, MIDI-Choir are the first that come to mind).

Ah, okay. That's the second time I've misunderstood you, so apologies.

It's just the same as clicking on a track to arm. Press alt + R to arm all tracks or do it twice to disarm all tracks. Theres no need to set it up each time.
When you suggested for me to arm all the tracks at once I thought that was an odd idea, but it turns out that Waveform handles armed tracks in a way that I am not used to. Normally its not good to record onto blank tracks with instruments loaded and armed, but Waveform happily records blank tracks without any ill effects.

So I worked out how to make and use virtual inputs and change channels with my keyboard controller. Its then just a matter of pressing a button for the next track, and hardly ever needing to use a mouse. The result is not dissimilar to having an auto arm feature. So belated thanks for your suggestion. :)

Ok, so I decided to try and make Waveform my main DAW. To help with my workflow I needed a controller that I could change channels easily with buttons. So I bought a Nektar Panorama P6 which is a very nice controller with sliders etc.

As it does not work natively with Waveform I had to to manually set it up. Fine, except it stopped working. All that time setting it up wasted. After days of head scratching I found that it did work, but only on channel one. Switch it to any other channel and it stops working.

So the story is that you can have a control surface in Waveform, but only on channel one !

Devs ?

Controller should work with any channel. You can see the MIDI channel that has been used in an assignment with the MIDI learn overlay or by going to "Settings" -> "Control Surfaces" -> "Edit Control Mappings...", the number in square brackets is the MIDI channel.

Are you sure your controller is set up to send out on more than one MIDI channel?

Thanks for your quick reply.

I had a quick try with the first two sliders and set them up for each channel, and it works ! I can now have my controller available regardless of the midi channel I am currently using - many thanks.

A bit of a long winded way to go around it though. I have looked in the Nektar manual and I have yet to find a way of transmitting in omni channel mode. But I can confirm that it does work out of the box with Reaper,Bitwig, and Cubase. So maybe the devs had to set it up in this long winded way.
