A hopefully interesting take on the 4 part chorale - for SATB (Soprano Alto Tenor Bass voices)

Vocal music is something I haven't written in this style for many years as getting a choir together is difficult and potentially expensive!

With what I now have in my music studio, I thought I might be able to pull off a VST-based recording?

The actual automation and production in general took much longer than the actual composing for this one...Wrote the actual music in just under an hour, but the production took a lot longer than that...8 - 10 hours, maybe! :0)

Well the choir sound is excellent. One of the best I've heard.

Obviously I'm no expert in anything classical (my entry for this month's KVR classical cover contest will most likely end up being me singing the 'Just One Corneto' advert backed by my shit nylon string 'classical' guitar ) nor choirs (if you're going to sing, you need to be smoking - I'll wager they're probably not that keen..) but to me that sounds very realistic - like the stuff my dad has on Classic FM. I seriously wouldn't have had it pegged as a sample library for sure.

Cowbell...I'm desperately trying to resist the urge to create a choir and cowbell piece....just for the hell of it! :0)

.. but to me that sounds very realistic - like the stuff my dad has on Classic FM. I seriously wouldn't have had it pegged as a sample library for sure.

The three you mention are quite different:

Oceania / Storm are very much aimed at punchy epic choir sounds and don't really do anything else that well.

Dominus is a more restrained Latin words chamber choir...it can do emotional and intense but NOT epic as such...no big staccato hits etc.

As for using them, if you can play the piano competently and throw in key switches etc 'live' then Dominus is quite intuitive to use...I will be much faster next time I use it, although I will still have to lay down all the latin words linked to keyswitches before hand.

I've tried both Oceania and Storm as epic choirs..I dismissed the first as I just didn't find that the sound was flexible enough to fit in with my orchestral palette...Storm I liked, but found it fiddly to use and a bad fit for my way of working.

The EpIc choir I use is this one: Soundiron Requiem Light (I got it in a sale for £99). Most of it is good...nothing seriously special, but the syllable master is awesome for epic choir passages...

Soundiron one sounds decent. I am looking for Epic.
Oceania is very playable but just lacks that extra punch Storm has.
I think Storm 3 is coming out and that has much updated scripting etc which might make it better in terms of workflow.

Agreed - Requiem Light certainly isn't as BIG as Storm, but to my ear, (having sung in choirs / played in orchestras for many years) it's sound is more 'real' as such. If you really want EPIC then Storm might be a better choice.

Note - I've used the syllable master in RL a number of times professionally and had no complaints so far, and it's a lot cheaper! :0)
