Hive is sweet, I love it. Great choice!

Yeah, testing audio stuff in virtual machines is totally not the way to go about it, as it's absolutely not going to perform as good as a native system.

Do note that Linux builds of u-he plugins are not officially supported (AFAIK?), they're done by a 3rd party and not a u-he employee, so in my mind they should be considered experimental...

Yes, it's very important to set your CPU to "performance" when doing Linux audio.
You may have to install some tools--upon Fedora it's:

Code: Select all

sudo dnf install kernel-tools
The CLI command then should look like this:

Code: Select all

sudo cpupower frequency-set --governor performance
Then to go back (my system's default):

Code: Select all

sudo cpupower frequency-set --governor powersave
Then perhaps make a script to launch with an icon for ease of use.

Btw, good choice with HIVE! I love to latch a note/sequence and jam along with guitar, bass or vox. Great fun.

BTW, I did set the CPU frequency to performance, by following this comment and adapting to my environment:

I tried your suggestions, but no luck. These seem to be the required commands on Ubuntu:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install linux-tools-common
sudo apt-get install linux-tools-generic
That gets everything installed, but this command

Code: Select all

sudo cpupower frequency-set --governor performance
just spits out an error message...

Error setting new values. Common errors:
- Do you have proper administration rights? (super-user?)
- Is the governor you requested available and modprobed?
- Trying to set an invalid policy?
- Trying to set a specific frequency, but userspace governor is not available, for example because of hardware which cannot be set to a specific frequency or because the userspace governor isn't loaded?
Any idea what that could be? Not much clue about these Linux specifics here...
Confucamus.

I also vote Hive. I run OpenSUSE and use Waveform 9 as my DAW. All of Trackion products also run on Linux.

I would say Pro Audio is in a very good state for the last 3 years at least. It is raw photo that we are lagging.

Bitwig is my DAWs and UHe and Tracktion Synths are my Bae. I maybe buy one synth a year. REMEMBER SELF just one synth a year!
