Just installed the Synclavier v2 update and this is indeed great. While the FM/additive synth was alraedy great with the sample playback and resynthesis finally this seems to be close to a full featured Synclavier while certain features go beyond the real thing.

In the real thing the samples collection alone seemed to be super expensive.

Synclavier V was already in V Colletion 5, so I think that any owner of V Collection 5 can also get Synclavier V 2 for free too.
I can confirm as owner of collection 5 I get all updates for free. The upgrade price you pay mainly for the new instruments. Yes it is generous in this case, might trigger some upgrades for pure gratefulness... At the same time they don't need to bind resources for supporting older versions and they don't need to deal with pissed of customers who upgraded the OS against all experience which could break old code any time...

Does the update come with any new sample content?

Hmm, should to say was pleasant surprise to see that Jupiter 8V was significantly repaired as well, along with that latest updates. (Was fixed synced values in effects, and some bugs in internal sequencer). This Arturia's trend is encouraging. (New programmers?) And resinthesys feature in synclavier very good indeed.

Yes, it comes with samples from the original Synclavier library and some additionals from Arturia. About 100 MB in total

Did they restore the original Jupiter 8 GUI of earlier versions?

How did they do the Synclavier in such detail? Does Arturia have so much money as to buy a Synclavier, which are very rare in the first place? Not a single unit on eBay :hihi:

Post

They created it in partnership with the original developer - Cameron Jones - so had access to his software engine and designs, even using parts of the original code.

This is why it's patch compatible with Synclavier timbre files.

Ah, cool :) In that respect emulating it was probably simpler as the original was already digital, computer-based in nature.

It has something to do with Roland. They had to make the GUI different enough to not be confused with a "real" Jupiter-8. It may have something to do with the launch of a Jupiter-8 emulation by Roland Cloud. That's why the name also changed to Jup-8

Yeah, it's probably one of the most authentic emulations there is because of that.

Shame on you, Roland. I am sorry for Arturia if they were forced to butcher the GUI of their own, already existing product. As if the Arturia name on the GUI did not indicate it is not by Roland

If anyone is using this in NI Komplete Kontrol I suggest rescanning the Synclavier NKS folder for the new presets as it doesn't seem to do this automatically.

BTW, i did compare just now both Jupiter versions (8v2 and 8v3) by sound at default v2 preset "JMB_Full Pad" (or just "Full Pad" in V3), so, there is really difference (in v2 sounds better) due to changed algorithm of LFO rate in V3, about what i really was reading once from another user, but i not thought that it will have such tangible (audible) result. Pity a bit.

For reference: while in 8v2 lfo rate value is 7.0, in 8V3 it's 0.7 in the same preset

As well, the maximum value of lfo rate in v2 is 32.89hz, while in v3 is 20.00hz
Planned change or issue perhaps ?

Well, in general, thus obviously that the preset compatibility can be achieved manually, by increase lfo rate. But how significant the differense in freq range (of lfo), i find it difficult to say.
(Sorry for Jupiter offtop)
