Another good trick to mangle noise is to use the XMF modules with filter type, Overdrive and FM adjusted to taste.

And not forgetting the noise you get from FMOs in "self" modes. Lots of different tonalities there, and the FMO also have the advantage of a consistent attack.

Some of these articles might be helpful. Also just studying the patches on something like Microtonic or Tremor might also be useful.

The stories about the ‘magical’ noise transistors are mostly myth to me. Anyone with the resources can find some nice super noisy transistors that would fit the bill. Could take a bit of resources though.
