And likely there'll be no more Hackintoshs, either.
My DAW PC hates me though I shower it with nothing but love..time to switch to a Mac?

Using Mac OS doesn’t define me. I just want less annoyance, and it provides this to me.
As to the person that said Apple drummed up the Mac vs PC fight... meh. I saw that behavior on both sides long before I was a Mac user (and very long before the switcher ads or the “I’m a Mac” marketing) and I thought the behavior was idiotic then too.
The whole arty/emotional person thing defining what computer you use ... also more nonsense. It’s akin to the people who think women and men are fundamentally different in how they think... it’s a load of rubbish.
At best, a PC user is more inclined toward IT or help desk careers and interests, and a Mac user is less interested in the technical minutia as the end all be all of using computers. There’s nothing arty vs non-arty here. I’ve been both people in my life. I’ve gone from being a techie to being a “born again user”.
I hate all computers. I just hate my Mac use experiences much much less than my Windows use experiences. I stuck with PCs until I realized my rage and hate for them was dysfunctional and unhealthy. Some of me hanging on there had to do with sunk cost fallacy and acculturation. I got over it.
If someone else has a better time with PCs, so be it. It doesn’t bother me if someone prefers what I do not. What bothers me is people prescribing their preference to others. There’s a lot of that in these kinds of threads.

Actually, I didn't meant to insult the guy. Sincerely, I thought he was kinda joking. How come someone be assembling PCs for 20 years and still can't get rid of BSOD's? That's something I find hard to believe.Coxy wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 1:34 pmReally Fernando? Was there any need to personally insult someone?fmr wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 6:03 pm So, you have been building PC's for 20 years, and you never stop fighting BSODs and driver update failings? Man, you must be really incompetent. You should have look for help A LONG TIME AGO
So, you bought a Mac one year ago... Maybe you should have done that sooner. You clearly don't have the skills to build your own PC.
But if you read this thread, you should have noticed that usually, Macs don't fail after one year (because that's under the warranty). Problems usually happen a little past over two years, or when Apple "updates" the OS. So, keep your champaign on ice, and don't open the bottle yet. It's too early to celebrate.
Why are you so insecure about people previously using PC's but now 'successfully' using Macs you feel you have to personally attack them now?
Aren't we all here just to share experiences, learn best practices, learn and create better music regardless of platform? This thread has demonstrated the bitterness of some people for no apparent reason.
Anyway, you are right. We are here to "share experiences, learn best practices, learn and create better music regardless of platform".
My apologies to the guy. Again my statement wasn't meant to offend you, but the truth sometimes hurts.

Actually Mac OS core is BSD more than anything else, which is more Unix than Linux which in turn is a good thing.
There's Windows stability, then there's Linux stability, then there's BSD stability which is another level. Many internet backbones are built on BSD core for the sheer stability it offers.
So Mac OS is built on an inherently more stable OS than Windows - hence one of the biggest things people migrating to Mac notice is the better uptime and lower downtime. It's not voodoo, placebo or witchcraft. It's good development right from the core.

Why bother spying on people’s consumer habits when you can get them to just tell your marketing dept everything they want to know?Michael L wrote: ↑Sun Oct 21, 2018 10:59 am Amazingly, someone actually did a 2011 study on what types of people Mac and PC users are:
Hunch is an online recommendation site: users answer "Teach Hunch About You" questions, and Hunch's algorithms recommend new movies, albums, products, services, websites, and so on. 388,315 Hunch users have told Hunch.com whether they use a Mac or a PC; Hunch cross-referenced that information with their huge database of individual preferences to produce this chart comparing Mac People and PC People...
...The survey offers you a glimpse into the Escher-like world of consumer preferences, in which groups that are already differentiated by their consumption style ("I'm a Mac" vs. "I'm a PC") further differentiate themselves by means of other consumer preferences, which all fit into a tightly connected network of consumption-based self-definition.

Microsoft and Apache (included in Mac OS) are pretty close but open-source is growing.
And that begs the question:
"If you showered a Linux DAW with love, would it love you back?"

I hadn't looked at the trends in this sort of stuff for a while but found it interesting - open source, cross platform stuff like Apache and particularly NGINX is trending up. Microsoft has a strong share of web develpment but, between them, Apache and NGINX have over 50%.Coxy wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 6:23 amWhat are you trying to show?egbert wrote: ↑Tue Oct 23, 2018 3:34 am Here is a survey of what software internet sites are running on - from last year. Web services is unquestionably an area that demands industrial strength applications and hardware - what we are doing with DAWs on laptops and low cost workstations is comparitively trivial in terms of computer tasks.
In that much bigger pond, the data suggest that proprietary software from Google and Microsoft is still a force to be reckoned with but open source is proving pretty unstoppable. What the implications are - if any - for our niche interest is open to debate.
I am more interested in where this goes in the future than rehashing last millenium stuff.

No problem here either. I believe that the problem most people have with Windows is that they forget to sacrifice a newborn baby the first full moon after every major update.VariKusBrainZ wrote: ↑Mon Oct 22, 2018 10:09 pmMy PC must be infected with this Voodoo Placebo Witchcraft you warn of,
