^^^
Oddly enough, I was thinking of the same thing over the week-end. The problem is - how to load it? Let's say I had a "chorus-preset" with 6 Multiparameters. I could open a spare Multiparameter (MP) Editor, open its Presets Browser and select it. Now the preset is loaded into this MP and into the next 5 MPs, possibly shuffling others down the list (or reporting an error if 5 sequential empty ones are not available).
Then I could add the reverb-preset, the EQ-preset etc as needed.
Subsequent deletion or moving of those presets would need some further thought ("Move panel contents" and "Delete panel contents" in the MP context menu??) later on.

Very good idea! I already changed quite a bit, but I like your layout, so give me a few minutes, I'll post a new concept.

DarkStar: Sorry, but opening presets between MSF and MPowerSynth is out of question if that's what you mean.

Of course, a per-FX bypass would not be lockable - would it?MeldaProduction wrote: Mon Nov 05, 2018 1:03 pm Damn! That's a good point, so no global FX bypass then. About per-FX bypass, there are some strong points there!
Not to sound like a broken record, but let me just say once more: make it the standard that FX that are not integral to the sound would default to bypassed. Reverb could be the exception - make it default that it would never be bypassed but make the standard be that with rare exception, the dry/wet level would be moderate. Most especially, expect that delay in most cases would be bypassed.
As long as sound designers have the latitude to deviate from the standard where it makes sense, most designers would be able to live with most design standards.
However, we still do not know one very important thing. What will the business model be for selling MSF and MSF expansion libraries? Hopefully this synth will succeed to the extent there is a healthy third party community of sound designers that want to get on board. But, will there be a robust independent developer community as there is with Kontakt? Or will there be an integral Melda-developer arrangement similar to what used to be the case with Camel Audio Alchemy or currently is the case with Synthmaster? I would think that this question needs answering before finalizing the design standards because the nature of the sound-designer relationship will have a lot to do with how beholden to a design standard those sound designers will be.

I agree that the 3rd party preset design details should be thought of and worked out before starting. 3rd party preset designers won’t stick to a standard if they don’t have to and if they have to might be less likely to make presets for MSF. I imagine most of them will either not use the easy screen at all or only use 4-8 controls. This is why I would also recommend a split between “presets” and “active presets”.
I think everyone here has different ideas about what types of presets they want to make. Of course there needs to be some standards, but i would suggest making it very loose. A “4FX rule” will likely cause sloppy preset design and wasted GUI space. A bass drum mighty benefit from compression, distortion and Eq, but there aren’t too many other fx commonly used with it. I imagine some people will just add a flanger to the preset just so they can move on. It will make the FX into “solutions looking for problems”.

jmg8 - The overall idea of having something to start with is good, but instead of having 1 version let’s share our “FX modules” and post them in a thread with code and pictures. That way others can look at them and decide what they want to use. For me what you posted above is a bit too simple and I’d want more control over things like reverb and delay. People that liked your version could then use it for their preset, alter it to suit their preset, choose my version, mix your version and my version or just make something completely new. It might save some people time, not having to make their own GUI every time.
dmbaer - We need to find out if there will be only “active presets” or “presets and active presets” before determining what to do with FX. If both are included I agree for “active presets” that non-essential FX should be off by default and variations with lots of FX should be saved as their own preset. If on the other hand there are only “active presets” FX should be on and used liberally.
I also hope the MSF is popular with sound designers and people will jump on board and make lots of preset packs for it.

I believe we should keep the standard set of FX as the preset template for sound designers to start with. It would contain all the global stuff and FX (bypassed as default) and a blank generator tab. Then it is super fast for them to start making their idea and they can turn on the FX they want.
However, in addition to that, we can start here a dedicated thread, where we share code and pictures. That would be really great. It would give others inspiration. Also, it could help less experienced creators.
