I'm hearing YouTube will block all privately uploaded videos in order to eliminate any liability for non-compliance at their end. How far does it extend? Pictures with logos and other people in the background?
EDIT: Removed unintentional clickbait title.

so youtube will stop for example me loading a video of me playing my guitar? for fear of what exactly?
extend that to all youtube content uploaders and they kill their ad revenue?
im not seeing how it would work other than to give copyright holders more power to retain copyright and intellectual property rights.
although "death of the internet imminent!" gets news sites more clicks than "complicated law atuff"

Yes precisely. You need express permission from everybody/thing in the video.vurt wrote: Fri Nov 16, 2018 2:20 pm so youtube will stop for example me loading a video of me playing my guitar? for fear of what exactly?

If you’re playing your guitar without permission from say ESP they can sue, if somebody walks past your window at the time they can sue. But they don’t sue you they sue YouTube who have said they’re not prepared to risk that and will block any private videos.

Re death of the Internet I completely agree it sounds a bit clickbaity and it’s not a term I made up but have seen it used frequently on this topic.
I do however think it’s not that much of an exaggeration. If we are not able to post pictures and videos on it then that’s a massive massive chunk. What is left then? Just commercial advertising sites. Think that this could even extend to forums.... If I post a picture and Roland doesn’t like it then they can sue KVR.

im not so much disagreeing with you, just from what ive heard, it's not actually been finalised yet.
the above is worst case scenarios as far as im aware.
so do americans have the same laws applied? ie can they still upload? if so everyone will just use proxy ips
i just think they have no idea that it is a true life pandoras box, good luck putting the lid on that!
like they've stopped any of the things we would all agree should be stopped on the internet...

IPs will not get around this as the videos will not be allowed at source. YouTube will take them down immediately.
The YouTubers I follow (all car guys) are very worried about this.

Precisely. I’m also surprised it isn’t front page everywhere as it has the potential to be massive.vurt wrote: Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:39 pm im surprised there haven't been more shocked or angry faces in the yt suggestions list thumbnails

Yeah it’s got nothing to do with YouTube’s decision. This is all EU.

true. but how they interpret the law and act upon it helps clear up the legal speak and remove any bias from news outletsmasterhiggins wrote: Fri Nov 16, 2018 3:45 pm Yeah it’s got nothing to do with YouTube’s decision. This is all EU.

How about a flat fee that everyone pays to the respective national body in charge of artists' copyrights (for instance Gema in Germany), paid automatically for instance via the ISP bill.
We already pay such a monthly fee here in Portugal. Basically because everyone knows it is impossible to track the usage of every song or parts thereof.
