Intermittent Recording Distortion

I received this software with a Behringer UPHORIA UMC404HD audio input, and have gone through available youtube training videos. My needs are humble in that I am a singer/songwriter of bluegrass/folk/americana type music, and want to get my songs recorded cleanly with minimal affects added. I was using Audacity with a single USB stereo mic, but bought the Behringer so I could have up to 4 inputs for better balancing of vocals. I really like the ease of use, flexibility, and better interface with the Behringer of Tracktion, but as I've been testing things out, I had a couple of instances of extreme distortion/garbling/noise in the recording. Both times I had added tracks to by initial track, but I don't think it had anything to do with the recording process itself. What I tried to do to isolate it was listen to each track separately, a all were affected. I tried to purposely recreate what I was doing (click on various tracks, rerecording a track, etc) and wasn't able to recreate it. I tried to UNDO, but the garble/corruption persisted. I finally closed the project and reopened it, and in both cases it was fine (I hadn't saved it after the corruption occurred). I really like the ease, but I'm concerned that I put a lot of hours on something and have the project corrupted wasting my (and especially my wife's) time. Any ideas what I'm doing (doing wrong)?

If anyone is interested, it was my ignorance that caused the problem. In the settings/device type, I had Windows Audio (apparently the default), and it needed to be ASIO. That brought up the UMC Driver for my audio input device, and I have had no problems since then. Lots to learn, but this product should work great for what I'm doing.

Great news. As always, I appreciate when a user solves his or her own problem and posts the results so we can all learn from it. That has saved me lots of time when I have problems. Welcome to the Waveform world! This is an incredible bunch of people here.
Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, and even Deezer, whatever the hell Deezer is.
