Its not to do with cost, or whether a person can afford it, its a matter of principle. I already have Studio One 4 pro and Waveform 9. I bought the mag because it said in clear writing - 8 tracks.
The thing is a joke compared with Live Lite which is a great little 8 track DAW. Bitwig should just make it a download from their website instead of touting it as a free 8 track DAW that comes a mag purchase or with various hardware devices.

Well you are limited to two VSTs too which may be a deal breaker and the modulation options seem a fair bit more limited so I guess if you wanted to demo them then the regular demo would be a better bet.vurt wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:03 pm so, the only real restriction is the number of tracks?
8 is more than enough
especially to demo all the cool features people keep telling me bw has to offer.
But I think for a coffee or two it's worthwhile. Fun little sketchbook to play with as an alternative to whatever you regularly use.

And it fecking has 8 tracks, just because you can't use them how you exactly want to doesn't mean it doesn't have 8 tracks. You can load up 8 instances of the included synths on individual tracks. Or 8 audio files on individual tracks. 8 tracks. Get over it.dellboy wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:47 pm I bought the mag because it said in clear writing - 8 tracks.

Cubase LE/AI is also very usable, Steinberg got 3 other paid versions on top of that, Ableton too, I really can't understand why a niche company like Bitwig isn't giving away left and right to lure as much people in as they could, they need it the most, 400 bucks DAW doesn't have any other version and one of the most if not the most restricted crippled magware/hardware version on the market, good luck with that.dellboy wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:47 pm The thing is a joke compared with Live Lite which is a great little 8 track DAW.
Yeah, good thing with 8 track is that you can save and export MIDI files to use in other DAW.GaryG wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:55 pm But I think for a coffee or two it's worthwhile. Fun little sketchbook to play with as an alternative to whatever you regularly use.

Just that people get sick of users trying to bully, push, manipulate and cajole developers into giving them stuff cheaper. It is really disrespectful.Zexila wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 8:07 pmExactly, totally with you on that, when I suggested that on Bitwig forum, everyone and their dogs jumped at me like it's most bizarre idea ever

Yes the 8 track is limited... but , hey guess what>> they want you to buy the real deal.
In the meantime, this gives a fair representation of what is on offer.
Yeah the 2 VST is a limit, but I am sure a render/bounce then remove VST and add another could work.. messy but doable .. ( that's what we did way back with 2 tracks and then 4 track etc etc.. it's cool>> decision on the hoof)
It does have it's own synths but sure, not the same as loading in the Sylenth synth of choice (What a carry on that topic is
)
I remember the first Audio DAW I got in 1997 was Samplitude Media.. a 4 stereo track thing, no MIDI.. but, guess what.. it did me ok with a few tricks.
@ Vurt.. I have not tried them yet but apparently Bitwig has great integration with Eurorack although this is also limited it should demonstrate what is possible with it's modulators...
Well I got it.. I ain't whinging... for sure it ain't like Reaper or Samplitude or a full version etc... but it'll have it's uses coz of it's tricks
And I would suggest it's fine for a noob to get going... Which I gather is it's Reason!
Oh well.. life, you ain't going to plz all the ppl all the time.

Yawn, you again, where's Thomas and other locals from Bitwig forum, do tell me more please why I need to keep my mouth shut and pretend 8 track is amazing thing?pdxindy wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 9:06 pmJust that people get sick of users trying to bully, push, manipulate and cajole developers into giving them stuff cheaper. So none of you are buying upgrades on sales? Such an loyal customers, true zealots...
Look, you are acting like religious fanatics about whole thing, is there a canonical rule about this, brochures with answers, why is upsetting you existence of people that aren't drinking same cool aid and believing in same thing, we gave our personal opinion publicly and you all got worked out so much to convert us to your belief system with same old mantra, it's crippled little too much for some of us, can you live with that, can we talk about that publicly without you getting on our cases?
Bitwig is selling DAW for money, not eternal life, if they did this for the love of the audio community, they wouldn't cripple this thing so much, probably would rent-to-own it and whatever thing that suits the customers, so that poor developers story is moot, this is getaway drug marketing strategy and not the best one either, so cut the crap.

that's all i want to check out really, to see if the actual main product is something that would add to my studio.
not looking for a "free" host or anything, just a usable demo that shows what bw can really do.

Yup... Unfortunately I made a hard decision not to go Eurorack (the lust never leaves) but VCV Rack kinda fill that need and I will explore BWDemo with VCV..vurt wrote: Sat Dec 01, 2018 9:19 pm

its slowing down now, the initial growth is inevitable, getting a synth that does interesting stuff, takes a few modules.
but once i had the main format down, im now just adding glitter so to speak.
theres a rack and a half left to fill there, im reckoning over the next year for that. im in no hurry now, its already a fun bundle, so i can take time deciding what i want to add

Yes, initial bit of growth...
I think with any Modula the thing is to have a set goal, knowing what you need rather than the addictive gas and weakening to one's WANTS...
Is that called discipline... I missed out on all that at skool and yes that's the thing, to have fun with what you got.
The units on the left...I kinda recognise them are they some oldish British Modula?
