No just different business plans. Personally I think $75 should be the high side on VSTi. For some stupid reason the market wants expensive instruments because they think more money = better quality sound.

Well, that's not true at all. It's rather that companies think that 150 € or more is the sweetspot for such instruments. AIR Hybrid 3 for 1 € doesn't sound any worse than many 150 € soft synths. The fact that KV331 Audio does well with a lower price shows that it's definitely possible to sell in such price regions. It's obviously rather that companies don't dare.

the price of SM1 is definitely not an indicator of the quality. In my frenzy of gearlust I often forget how good the synthmaster products are. I'm sure they could meet all my needs if there weren't so many other distractions

Isn't the official price of Hybrid 3 also around 150?
I have it, but somehow I rarely use it, the user interface alone is enough of a reason for me to avoid it.

Why compare to Synthmaster One? And not just Synthmaster? The full package. Given that's more in the pricerange of Sylenth1.

And I agree that most comparisons are not very usefull for readers of this forum without saying something more or less objective about certain specific features of either synth.

I bet Synthmaster wins in sheer amount of functionality. But that doesn't necessarily make it better. Just more versatile. Specialist tools are often better then multitools at their speciality. A Swiss Army knive cannot compete with a sturdy screwdriver. But it's hard to peel an apple with a screwdriver.

Not saying Synthmaster is a bucket of compromises.....I thinks it does pretty well in many ways. Versatile oscillators, many great filters, versatile modulators and envelopes and more in general, an enormous amount of modulation sources and targets.

Also not degrading Synlenth1 to a simple and limited tool. Each tool has its uses. Variety and differences should be embraced, not critisized. Make the most of the strengths and possibilities of a tool. Find another complementary tool if you miss something.

I’ve not heard anything to indicate that Hybrid can compete with the big boys. The market determines prices. If Hybrid was worth 150 bucks then Air wouldn’t be giving it away for free hoping you’d buy their other stuff.

Well Hybrid is more like Sylenth1 if must be compared in some situation actually better and the price has nothing to do with functionality and sound - Synthmaster One start when previous two finish,from designer and producer point it's multi purpose synth,Sylenth1 is more like simple yet great edm synth from 90's - sm1 is everything that sylenth1 users would ask as upgrade

that use the software ilok-manager might be
a ploy get people who've heard the worst ilok
horror stories, to give it a try, without a financial risk.
The end result maybe leading to years of
more expensive purchases also requiring ilok-manager.

I repeat prices are determined by market forces. The people that run a large multinational corporation like InMusic brands are not stupid and they are not business amateurs. They are using this stuff as a loss leader to reel you into their ecosystem. Also look at it this way. If they were selling thousands of units of Hybrid every year at the $150 RRP retail price. They would have kept it at that price point. But since it’s not selling anymore at that price they have determined it is more profitable for them to sell at loss and then up sell their other products or services to you.

As for stuff like Spire and Repro. The market has determined that these sell in high enough numbers at their current price point that there is no need to change. Selling your product at below market value will actually hurt you in the long run.

Because Synthmaster One is similar in layout to Sylenth. Anyway, Synthmaster One is a much better synth than Sylenth anyway.

Sylenth is greatly overrated. The reputation is from the past, not the present. It is old and outdated and if it were released today, wouldn't even be noticed. It has some lovely qualities even now, but other areas it has been far surpassed sound quality wise. It does use very low CPU (and you can hear that sonically), so for someone with an old CPU it could be a good choice.
