2nd track from my upcoming CD "Untitled Masterpiece"

Revolving Door

I don't care if you want to
I don't care if you need to
I don't care if it's raining
Might as well stop complaining

I don't care if you're lonely
I don't care if you're only
Trying to pass the time girl
Don't want to be part of your world

Cause I know it's me then some guy
Seems you just can't make up your mind

I don't want to be a part of your revolving door
Keeping up with all your guys has become quite a chore
I don't want to say some words just to even the score
I don't want to be a part of your revolving door

When you paint on your makeup
Guys are in for a shakeup
They won't see it all coming
When they should be a running

They don't stand half a chance no
Waiting for the next dance so
You can string them along there
While they twist in the night air

Then you look at me with those eyes
Seems you just can't make up your mind

Repeat Chorus

You must be joking with us.
Unless...you are going for that 80's tape recorder sound.
But...i have owned tape recorders and not even the cheap ones sounded like that. :uhuhuh:
If they had i would get my money back.

No, not joking. That's the sound I was going for.

But thanks for the listen and feedback.

That's really good, enjoyed both the mix and the songwriting. I like the lofi wobbly/vibrato/cassette effect - think it's just on the edge of being over the top, but it works in a kind of ELO way. Geetar riff is cool too, a bit like The Cars? Vocals definitely sitting in the mix a lot better than I've heard before. You can still probably cut some of the high eq from the reverb if I'm being technical - if you listen there's still quite a bit of sibilance being picked up and amplified by the reverb and a bit of cut or damping will get rid of most.

Post

has a touch of xtc about it :tu:
nice job on the mix too, you have certainly improved your production chops 8)

Post

Thanks guys. Yeah DT, you're right about the reverb. Could definitely cut off the top end and maybe kill some of that sibilance. I don't think about it because everything over 5k is dead to me and you can't always go by the SPAN, especially with the verb.

Vurt, improvement had a lot to do with you guys kicking my ass over at the Production sub forum.

and a lot to do with you both listening to and understanding the information, enough to apply it to new productions.
so pat yourself on the back too :tu:

Okay, maybe just a little pat.

ITMT, going to attempt a kind of old style EMI/Abbey Road sounding track using REDD 17, 37 and 51 Consoles, TG 12345 console and J37 tape. Nothing else except for EQ, Compression and Delay and Reverb.

Guitar amps will be a little tricky to duplicate as I'm not sure if I have any old emulations. I have to look. I do have the Fender Bassman, which is actually a crappy sounding bass amp but is what Paul McCartney used a lot.

I've got the Abbey Road drums early and late models so that's covered.

Should be interesting and fun.

do you not have an vox style amps?
usually under "ac type" in emulations or "ac 30" maybe?

I probably do. Damn I have so much stuff here I can't keep track of it all. As far as amp "packages" I have...

Guitar Rig 5
Amplitude 4
Revalver

I'm sure somewhere in there is an AC 30.

Post

although, to be completely honest, unless youre doing a direct emulations version of a track, settings on most amp sims will get you "close enough" so long as you avoid high gain marshall types.

ps: im pretty sure guitar rig does have a vox style...

Post

yep ac box.
first amp under components/amps :tu:

In Amplitube it's 'British Copper 30TB', whilst in Guitar Rig it's 'AC Box'. Dunno about Revalver, I personally prefer the Amplitube one.

I like Amplitude a lot, especially the British amps. Very easy interface to work with too.

I might combine this (on a different guitar obviously) with the Amplitude and see how they two sound together panned left and right.
