Just tried Tracktion for the first time, Spe3d? What were ya waiting for? ;)

I remember when I tried it for the first time, over a year ago. I didn't need to look at the manual once, tooltips covered it. And everything is layed out right in front of you - there aren't really any big questions to ask. Just now Cubase and Sonar are starting to copy alot of the big 'workflow' improvements Tracktion had back then...

Contrasting that to FL, it took me over an hour to figure out how to assign synths to different fx tracks! (yes perhaps I'm slow...)

It took me 2 weeks to figure out how to set tempo to a loop in Cubase VST 5.1.

true for an experienced person, but for a newbie, who may never even have heard of things like piano roll, how would you find it on your own? Is there as more detailed guide, that has an index you can look into by letter entry?

no, there is no more detailed guide. Yes I suppose for a total newbie it could be slightly difficult. I'm sure with v2 a proper manual will be released.

The straight forward midi keyboard recording is bloody awesome for speed in comparison imo.

No wonder so may people rave over this application – if it were not for RM4 and needing to do some percussion tracks, and FL faffing, I would not have been looking this deep into the application like I have over the last couple of days – I have to say I am a bit hooked to the way it works now – much more intuitive over a pattern layout.
Glad you like Tracktion - me too! The only advantage of FL is that you can ReWire it into Audition, which you can't with Tracktion as it is a ReWire host only.

On the other hand you can edit using Audition from within Tracktion (which I don't think you can in FL, although I've only played with a demo, and frankly I have found it pretty confusing even when trying basic things - but before the FL crowd stone me, I know it is a powerful application 8) )

To use Audition as an editor in Tracktion, select the audio track, click "view source info" and from the menu assign Audition as your external editor. Then go!

Also, Tracktion outputs at 32-bit (which even, for example, Sonar 3 doesn't do!) so you can bring your finished Tracktion work-of-art into Audition for final mastering at high quality resolution.

So as with all these things its "swings and rounderbouts", but I think Tracktion is great as an all-round sequencer.

For an all-audio-recording venture I would personally do it all in Audition though, and not bother with a sequencer at all. The sound in Audition is simply so transparent, and the effects outstanding 8) .

Tracktion sucks.

Get GarageBand.

is it easy to record audio in tracktion from softsynths rack synths?
I have sonic synth on sampletank LE, which can only do one instance, so if I want to use more sounds in a track I would need to record what I have, then bring up ST again on another track.

Yeah, it's easy if all you need to do is render.

Just select the track, hit render, and a few moments later you'll have the audio file ready to go.

Its even better than freeze if you use the render-add track.

Still not as good as Garageband but I make due.

First time I tried it, taking it seriously floyd,

and really there is so much efficiency in this program I am kicking myself for not getting on board sooner. The filer move-ability between each track – so easy and fast – I only need one instance of a synth, lay out the lines, and then move them into different tracks, and render different variations one after the other – my computer loves this program, no struggle, no software crash, no irregular contortions to do simple things, fast. Great tempo control, excellent midi input from my keyboard and controller – ecs works for the first time. I can layer bounced tracks and then add effects – very easy to assign automation curves. It’s even got loop recording. :)

Wonderful,

headquest, thanks for the tips, this has saved me time getting seamless integration with Audition – in fact the workflow is becoming very efficient and more powerful each day – I simply could not do some of the things before, that I am now able to achieve.

Excellent,

Best regards,
