Hey y'all.

How useful is the NI NKS format in relation to U-he synths? Contemplating a Komplete Kontrol keyboard in the hope of saving some space.

I want to be able to quickly craft sounds in Diva really. That's the aim. Envelopes, filter, oscillator and maybe velocity settings on the envelopes are the main parameters that I'm interested in having on hand. The rest I can mouse around with.

Cheers.

Can't answer your question about NKS specifically but I basically bought a Roland System-8 mostly to be a Diva controller. It's got a generic enough layout and feature set that it maps out to any virtual analog synth pretty well. I hardly use the mouse now when programming sounds. Great experience. If Native Instruments put out an NKS synth though with a similar feature set...I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

Also, you don't need to look at that particular synthesizer, there are a lot of virtual and analog synthesizers on the market that transmit CCs and would map well to Diva. Anyway, just a different perspective. The NI stuff does look really cool but I want more knobs, faders, and buttons with less paging.

Well I wouldn't mind a Subsequent 37 in truth. 40 knobs and who knows how many buttons et al. But I'm a little bit torn because I need a slightly larger keybed than what the Subsequent provides (61 keys essentially). Thanks for the perspective though. Thinking about it I might snag the Subsequent anyway and maybe look for a cheap(er) 1st generation NI controller or some other controller with a fatar keybed.

For deep editing is use the plugin interface, but for live playing and recording some common parameters (filter cutoff, env depth, decay, etc.) I use my Komplete Kontrol keyboard.
I only don't like that I need to load the Komplete Kontrol plugin for each plugin I want to play.

I have a NI KK S61 and love it, it helps bring Diva to life, while its only 8 knobs, quickly knowing what they do and where to find them due to the big LCD is fantastic. I would dearly have loved to see Hive and Bazille get their NKS treatment. Like all hardware controllers it’s a compromise but it’s quite a good one.

Hive gets NKS support in version 2. Not sure about Bazille.

Wouldn't be without it now - just puts everything quickly under my fingertips

I’m with you regarding the KK plugin.
What annoyed me is the default « VST mapping » order of parameters of Repro 1 & 5 is not convenient. Which renders the default DAW remote control useless.

You can edit it to how you want. It's hard to create a mapping that suits everyone.

I don’t have a NI controller so I rely on the default vst mapping. This one is editable ? The first parameters of repro1 are those about the modulation matrix, then LFO, … there is no « grouping by 8 » so I wonder if it is convenient for somebody…
I don’t know if the supplied NKS mapping is better. Weirdly, the vst mapping of Replika is great whereas they could have done it messily since NKS allows to reorder parameters…

You don't need the hardware controller to reorder mappings, it's done in the software version of Komplete Kontrol.

However...'The first parameters of repro1 are those about the modulation matrix, then LFO, … there is no « grouping by 8 » so I wonder if it is convenient for somebody… ' This does not sound like the Repro 1 NKS mapping to me, it starts, sensibly, with the filters, then mixer and AMP env, then OSCS, LFOs and Mods are not till after that and everything is grouped by 8 to match the KK layout. It isn't as deep as it could be but they went for performance over sound design needs.

I think SebAV is talking about the order that Repro has its controls ordered natively. It's been a while since I looked at it (Edit: 2 years! jebus...) whilst building up presets for Repro 1 in Live, but what SebAV mentions about the order that the VST reveals its controls to Live sounds right from memory. I had to re-order them to get the controls in a more "sensible" order. See here for reference:

Ok but why bring that up here then, this is a thread about Komplete Kontrol and NKS?
