I'm inclined to agree I'm amazed you still can't resize Kontakt horizontally. It looks like IK multimedia have pulled out all the stops for SampleTank 4. I never used SampleTank 3 much because the interface was so small and not resizeable. But judging from the promo's I've seen SampleTank 4 looks like it's finally reached its potential.

I just have one mroe question about ST4.

Does it support Note expression (Cubase & Bitwig) since it is VST3?

EDIT:

NVM. Note expression is based on the Host not the VST

As other have stated, I look forward to instrument list release, in order to make a determination whether or not to purchase SampleTank 4 or the MAX version.

In light of the fact that there is not an upgrade path from SampleTank 4 to SampleTank 4 MAX, to upgrade later would be a waste of financial resources, as I have spent over $100 in eligible cross-grade products many years ago and will pay the same price today for the MAX version as later in order to upgrade from the standard 4 version (under the same sale discount conditions).

With the new preset browser, SampleTank 4 (or 4 MAX), in addition to the inclusion of Miroslav Philharmonik 2 and Syntronik Deluxe under one GUI, will more than likely become my primary songwriting/pre-production VST instrument ahead of Falcon and HALion.

Also, based on what I see in my shopping cart, are the USB drive version and download version the same price? I also don't see any shipping cost in the cart, is that right? Thanks for any information.
It is recommended for transferring the files, not for storing them permanently. Especially with the use of disk streaming now in SampleTank 4 you'd want to install the sounds onto another hard drive.

That's interesting. I don't have Falcon. Why are you considering switching from Falcon to ST4?

I am not necessarily switching away from Falcon as I already own SampleTank 3 and use various DAW songwriting templates based around both VST instruments. However, while also not great in Falcon, the browser navigation is extremely inefficient in SampleTank 3, which prevents me from using it as a first option at this time.

FWIW, HALion 6 is probably the option I use the most. Other VST instruments I use in lieu of SampleTank, Falcon and HALion are Kontakt and Analog Lab. All of the aforementioned VSTs are well suited as a sole synth/keyboard sound source during the songwriting phase, which helps to establish limitations and boundaries. As I transition to final production, I start swapping out the sounds to other VST instruments.

With that said, my main issue with Falcon is that too many of its available synth library offerings are heavily EDM-centric and do not work well with the music I create (late 90-ish R&B). SampleTank, as well as HALion, in my opinion, are more genre-neutral and overall more pleasing to my ears. In light of the new browser, I can see myself using SampleTank a lot more after version 4 is available.

Peter, will a 3.0 usb external drive (not ssd) work for disk streaming?

USB flash drives typically use slow, cheap memory. If you mean USB HDD performance will be even worse.

sudden windfall has reversed my decision to not preorder :D

Peter, is there any ballpark value of when release will happen? i understand the early 2019 part, but how early - January? Q1?

Well I'd say Q1 is very realistic, but we'll do our best to get it out as soon as we can (and as soon as we feel it is solid and ready to go). We do have more demos just posted, so that's a good sign since they were done by an artist. I'll post those soon, too.

Hi, is there a possibility to upgrade/crossgrade from st3 to st4max? And how long is the preorder period? Thanks!

Hi you would qualify for the $/€199.99 SampleTank 4 MAX upgrade pricing and the pre-order pricing is valid through the end of this year per https://www.ikmultimedia.com/news/index ... ampletank4

I´ve read through this thread but a couple of thins are still not clear to me:

1. Will I be able to load all my existing ST3MAX expansions? Do these require any conversion?
2. Do I have to download all the content again, or can I simply just update the existing content?
4. Is the USB-version really the same cost? Can I choose to download the product later if the drive breaks? When will these ship?

I bought ST3 a couple of years ago but havn't actually used it much due to the clunky preset browsing, and I found myself going to HalionSonic every time. The new ST4 interface is a game changer for me and I´m looking forward to start using it.

Now, if we could only have NKS support... :-)

Thanks

listened to the new instrument demos. mostly, they sound from decent to great - jamming with this thing should be a joy (and the new features are awesome - looking forward to the release!).

however, limitations of ST4 engine are readily apparent. it kicks ass on percussive and "one-off" sounds - vibes-kalimbas, pianos, keyboards etc., even pizzicato strings mostly. however, demo 7 with strings - there's that nagging attack sound on every chord change, and you can clearly tell it's not a "proper" orchestral library with auto-divisi, legato etc. same goes for mandolin demos - IMO they don't quite sound like a real mandolin does.
