MDrummer Studio 2018 installation path(s)

Is it possible for MDrummer to use multiple paths. I would like to install the 14Gb of Studio 2018 somewhere else. If possible, what configuration needs to be modified ?

For that matter, where's the default installation path ?

I'm new to MDrummer in many ways and only installed packs months ago, and that was quickly forgotten. There's a 'Menu -> Select MDrummer factory data path' option. And that option does not show any configured path at all, it's a generic file manager type of thing.

Thing is, I also do not want to mess up what's already installed.

I'm afraid not, it's a complex structure of folders, which all needs to be at the same place.

Hope this helps. Shows where it is (mine shown), what it contains, and you can set it to something else there too. (Think you need to have the content at location first, but unsure)

I am in this category also. Do I put the new download at the top on the data path, in the drum set folder, or...

Since the original two packs were installed, there was a hard disk change. Lots of space for music now on a new drive, but the home folder that stayed in place has only a few gigabytes left. First things first, I'll check where the current packs were installed.

When I open that dialog box the following is shown, which makes sense in a way since this is about "finding". Then I can do the same using a regular file browser. Looks like MDrummer does not want to tell where the packs are.

Maybe its config file ?

Getting there. The 'Menu -> Install Pack' dialog will immediately show where the current packs are installed. It seems that 'Factory Data' and 'Packs' are two different things.

Now the 2018 download is stored somewhere else. I'm afraid that if I use this 'Install Pack' dialog to navigate elsewhere that it will shift the default location away from where the current packs are installed.

Maybe I should copy the 17GB file into this current location (where there's ample space, at least twice 17GB at a very minimum) and tell MDrummer to install it. And once done, remove it.

BTW, there's only one instance of the word 'pack' in the MDrummer documentation that I have and it does not say much at all.

Think you would move the existing to where you want it to be(file manager), then change the setting for the default from the menu, then install the new pack to that location. No need to move the download, you can navigate to it from the install dialog...
Can't check right now if mine opens there or I just knew where to look...

I think there needs to be thread about improving the doc for MD, if there isn't any.

All right, installed. And works OK. The only thing I'd say about the installation is that there should be a way to choose the installation file without having to copy it right there where the previous packs were installed. This seems to be counter-intuitive. A file dialog that asks where is the pack you want to install in the current MDrummer pack directory (and showing that directory) would be more like all other software works.

And yes, there should be some documentation about it too.

Not sure about that, at least that's not the impression I got. The current packs are installed on a drive with the virtual machines so there's ample space. And that's the location that MDrummer shows where the current packs are installed. I must have chosen that months ago. If I move away from where MDrummer shows then maybe MDrummer will think I want a new location ?

It's installed now. Don't have the time to explore at the moment but will do later

The install does allow to navigate to any location of the download. Mine kept on a NAS, installed to local SSD.
Don't know why you don't see it...

Yes, but as I mentioned, navigating elsewhere than the folder where the 'Install Pack' opens with gives the impression that this would change the default installation path. When the 'Install Pack' file dialog opens, at least here, it shows the folder where all MDrummer packs are currently installed. If I move away, will it change the default path ?

Months ago when I installed the other packs, where in MDrummer did I specify to use Z:/VM/MDrummerPacks/ ? Wasn't that by using this file dialog ? Is there another place in MDrummer where it's possible to specify the default path for packs ? You see, there are some doubts, so I played it safe.

Ok so:

Set factory folder lets you select where the data are if you moved them somewhere for example. Like if your SSD got near full and you moved it to another SSD .

Install pack installs a selected pack (e.g. Studio 2018) to the current factory folder.
