I think that's the same for a lot of us. I only ever wanted to play guitar, write some music and let someone else do the tedious singing bit. Trouble is, all the singers I ever worked with were nutters in some way (or wanted me to start changing stuff to suit them...how dare they..wagtunes wrote: Mon Dec 17, 2018 4:16 pm But my goal was never to be a singer. It was to be a songwriter. Burt Bacharach has one of the worst voices I've ever heard.
I'll take his career and voice any day of the week, thank you.
But then I'm not Burt Bacharach either.

Sure, I just remember the conversation and you were making a pretty big deal out of it. I seem to recall that it was when we were talking about country music. If you can carry a tune at all, there's not way that vocaloid is going to be more convincing for a country tune. Unless perhaps we're talking about some kind of Japanese anime country thing...but I'm shuddering at the thought.wagtunes wrote: Mon Dec 17, 2018 4:16 pm We all know who they are. The ones who can either belt out a song or have voices like velvet. I'm not them. I ain't ever gonna be them. Yeah, I can carry a tune. Within a certain range I even sound "decent".
I get the range thing though. My range is quite limited and I have favorite keys, not just because of range, but because I do some notes better than others, range notwithstanding, and those notes fit the right spots in certain keys better than others.

3rd track from my upcoming CD "Untitled Masterpiece"
Totally Vocaloid free on this one. Really starting to enjoy singing again as long as I stay within myself.
24 tracks. Went for big spacious mix. Some may think it's a little reverb heavy. I tried doing this track drier but it just didn't work for me.
I just wish I had Roger Daltry to sing this one.
Tommy's Lament
Can you see me
Can you feel me
Can you hear me crying for you
When the night falls
And the wolf calls
Will you touch me the way that you do
This is your Tommy
Spending his life playing that pinball machine
I've seen heaven and hell
And everything in between
Do you love me
Do you want me
Will you hold me through the night
When the moon shines
When the clock chimes
Will you be here to make things right
Repeat Refrain
Instrumental Break
Repeat Refrain
Finally sober
Finally over
Rest in peace for eternity

If the bass was in front of the drums it would've been excellent.
If I sang like Roger Daltry it would be perfect

Yeah, there's plenty of room for going off the reservation on that one as far as guitar solos go but I decided to keep it simple. The Noodlist wrote: Tue Dec 18, 2018 5:44 pm Yep, that hit the spot. I wanna donate a guitar solo. Good stuff.

4th track from my upcoming CD "Untitled Masterpiece"
This one was a nightmare to mix and master. I did 3 different masters of this until I finally decided on this one. First one the drums weren't prominent enough. Second one was, IMO, too bass heavy. My studio speakers were really close to buzzing. I've been criticized in the past for not having enough bass so I wanted to pump this one up a bit but I think I overcooked it. So I brought it down in the final master. Is is good or did I cut too much or is it still too much low end?
Otherwise, I wanted to do something a little lighter and fun so this might come off as a bit silly and corny to some of you. Perfectly understandable.
Rockin To The East Side
Wo oh, wo oh
Rockin everyday
Wo oh, wo oh
Rock my life away
Wo oh, wo oh
Rockin for a ride
Rockin to the east side
West Coast girls fer sure they are so fine
West Coast girls can really blow your mind
But they can't compete with whose the best
East Coast girls for me you take the rest
Kansas girls yeah they may be real cute
Texas girls I reckon are a hoot
But they can't hold a candle too
East Coast girls I'm stuck on them like glue
Repeat Chorus 2x
Montana girls can really ride a horse
Nevada girls they're crazy well of course
But they can't ever measure up
East Coast girls I just can't get enough
Repeat Chorus 2x
If I could have me my pick
Only East Coast girls do the trick
They're the finest girls in the land
Gonna get some for a rock and roll band
Repeat Chorus

Not enough time for proper listens right now, but I was curious so poked around, and IMHO:
You should keep singing! Your voice is perfectly acceptable for the tracks you've written.
And "perfectly acceptable" is meant as a high complement, coming from someone with a lot of experience. Stevie Nicks isn't Julie Andrews and doesn't need to be to sing Fleetwood Mac tracks, and your voice is perfect for that style of pop - you've certainly done a fine job with it.
I do prefer it to the vocaloid, which I think still marks any music distinctively with that characteristic, regardless of the genre and skill with which it's applied.

I listened to "Rockin To The East Side". I guess it's an answer to "California Girls."
Cool song and very catchy! Excellent combination of your vox with vocaloid backing. The mix is very good. The bass sounds good to me. I think the mix is possibly missing some higher frequencies.
Minor complaints -- I wanted some drum fills and more interesting lyrics.

The background vocals is actually Realivox Ladies. There are no Vocaloids on this one.
The upper frequencies, yeah, I took a low pass to the top end because I can't hear above 5k and when I looked at the initial SPAN readout it looked like it might be a little harsh up there and since I can't hear it I decided to be safe instead of sorry.
I can ease off on the low pass a bit but not being able to hear the difference, it would all be guesswork. This is where I essentially need a 2nd pair of ears to EQ 5k and above for me.
Drums fills. Yeah, they're kind of light for this one. Lyrics. Like I said, silly and corny song. They were quite intentional. LOL.

Thanks for the listen. It's quite possible that it's as you said as that was the sound I was going for (early 1970s, AM radio) so I guess I nailed it.layzer wrote: Thu Dec 27, 2018 12:29 pm listened to tommys lament -
