1. Is there a reason that Tom1 is mapped to both C2 and D2?
2. Should switching to Drum Pad mode automatically disengage Sequencer mode? (It does not do this and I thought that was the point of Drum Pad mode.) FL20.1.1
3. If I remap a Drumset to the MIDI keys that I want them to be triggered from, will that ruin the Rhythms for that Drumset? Will I need to rewrite the Rhythms to reflect my changes?

My understanding:
1/ GM has 4 toms...High Tom D2, High Mid Tom C2, Low Mid Tom B1, Low Tom A1.
MD has 3 toms...GM drum parts with notes D2 and/or C2 will be played in MD by Tom 1. It's a way of 'scooping both up' I guess. If you specifically wanted to play (in pad mode) a drum part with 4 toms you could add another tom in the drumset editor> drum list, re-name it, assign a sample (or layers) to it, and adjust your MIDI note assignments.
If you specifically wanted 4 toms using MIDI command method (and thus Rhythms with 4 different toms) that's do-able but pretty involved, especially if you wanted that configuration to be included in MD's rhythm generating thing.
2/ The Sequencer mode in Rhythm Editor> Additional> Advanced is essentially about how MD plays when editing/auditioning/playing rhythms within MD using its own playback. You can do this whether drumpad mode is enabled or not. Drumpad mode essentially disables MIDI commands from DAW. It doesn't care whether Sequencing mode is on or off.
3/ No, the rhythms are essentially separate from the drumsets. Sure, part of what defines a Rhythm is the drumtypes used but the actual drums (layers/samples/settings) are up for grabs. Mind you, Load/Save SONG or Load/Save an overall preset will include everything (including MIDI key assignments).

Maybe you can tell me one more thing...
I'm thinking of creating a percussion drumset where all of the articulations are mapped to velocity. eg. Bongo hi - use all of the ambient articulations spread over the velocity range evenly and outputting the volume at a set level. Have you noticed any presets that already do that? Its so deep now that things are almost hard to find.

I haven't come across anything specifically like that ^^^, but it would be easy to set up. Start with the drumtype Bonga hi in the drumlist; add the velocity layers you want, each with its own velocity range and sample. Make sure Mode is set to FIRST (not ALL or RANDOM) and in ADVANCED DRUM PARAMETERS set Volume by velocity to 0.00%.

When trying to use the A - H switching to change (only) the rhythm selection under a category (e.g. Category = Acoustic - Studio 2018, rhythm selection from 150 bpm Heavy 1 to 150 bpm Heavy 2) - not possible. All become last rhythm selection...

You mean the A...H buttons on the right-hand side? They change everything.
A-H presets selector
A-H presets selector controls the current A-H preset. This allows the plugin to store up to 8 sets of settings, including those parameters that cannot be automated or modulated. However it does not include channel mode, upsampling and potentially some other global controls available from the Settings/Settings menu.
For example, this feature can be used to keep multiple settings, when you are not sure about the ideal configuration When you change any parameter, only the currently selected preset is modified.
The four buttons below enable you to switch between the last 2 selected sets using the A/B button, morph between the first 4 sets using the morphing button and copy & paste settings from one preset to another (via the clipboard).
It is also possible to switch between the presets using MIDI program change messages sent from your host. The set selected depends on the Program Change number: 0 selects A, 7 selects H, 8 selects A, 15 selects H and so on.

What steps did you take?
I just opened MD. Chose default kit. Chose 150bpm Heavy 1.
Then switched to B.
Chose default kit. Chose 150 bpm Heavy 2.
Switching A<>B changes back and forth between the 2 rhythms.
The result of switching like that is quite awkward feeling. I'm sure that there is a better way to do it.(Which I don't know right off the top of my head right now.)
