The self-titled albums from the Cars and Pretenders
The Sugarcubes - Life's Too Good (cassette version tho, the Cd has far too much filler, imo)

are we allowed to nominate our own stuff? my 1st album with Gitane Demone Quartet "Past The Sun" was f**king spectacularly brilliant and criminally overlooked. imho of course.

Cars and Devo, definitely. All the others previously mentioned are rubbish. My others would be -

Urban Verbs - Urban Verbs (which is actually my favourite album of all time),
The Motors - Motors I,
Ruts - The Crack,
Killing Joke - Killing Joke,
Hunters & Collectors - Hunters & Collectors,
Hitmen - Hitmen,
Buzzcocks - Another Music in a Different Kitchen, and
Magazine - Real Life.

Interestingly, every EBM/Industrial act I can think of took a few albums to hit their stride, with the possible exception of Nine Inch Nails, whose debut is definitely his best work, and Funker Vogt.

One of those that come to mind:

I think I read somewhere that they opened for Hendrix in London around the time the album came out in 1968. That must have been pretty interesting.

Most of the albums I was going to mention were already mentioned, so here are just a few that I can think of right now:

The Coral - The Coral
Just some simple poppy/rocky music and there is nothing wrong with that if it's done right.

Edit - Crying Over Pros for No Reason
He just had that one good album in him, but that one is amazing.

Tom Waits - Closing Time
Maybe not his best, but "not his best" is still f*cking good in Tom Waits land!

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
A classic.

Radiohead - Pablo Honey
Just kidding :hihi:

Did anyone mention The Ramones?

Not yet but I think Rocket to Russia is their best, so I wouldn't have thought of them.

I was thinking about this the other day and the one that sprang to mind was by one of our Aussie bands
Flowers - Icehouse (1980) .
KVR - the many headed beast.

I really like that album.

A great way to hear those songs mixed in with 'The Bends':

21 Guns - Salute

Main Man: Scott Gorham (ex Thin Lizzy)

Record was too eighties for the early nineties.
This is the same method MJ used when he was working on Anthony Marinelli's Thriller.
