Rendering an effect track to a file? (Waveform 9)

I'm using Aux send / Aux return to route an instrument track to an effect track (with nothing on it but the effect VST, Byome). It works fine when I render both to a single file, but "render each track to a separate file" only renders the instrument track. Trying to only render the effect track gives the error message "track is silent - no file was created" (and no file is created). So how can I do it? This is really annoying.

Tracktion leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to flexible recording of stuff. That said,
you can probably just set a 3rd track with the effect track as it's audio source and record it
that way.
Anyway, remember, you cannot record without designating an audio source. Sadly, you cannot
just designate anything you want, to be an audio source. You often have to go out of your way
to do stuff. For instance, near as I can tell, to record a multiout vsti in tracktion, you need to
double the tracks, e.g. to record 8 parts of a vsti, you need to make 16 tracks.

you can have the output fader to the stereo (maybe an extra fader at last position, not automated) set to -INF, and the aux is beforehand sending to the effect. so you render both tracks and the result will be the effect sound.
