Title says it. I posted another topic on reverting as well. Hope the title of this thread get's noticed by Beno so the audio glitches get addressed in the next release.

I should add here that I've seen others posting on the audio glitch problem and didn't take it seriously until I had it too. I tried everything but only fixed it when reverting to the previous version 1.5.1.16.

Post

What kind of glitches are you getting? I'm getting some clipping on renders of some tracks.

The bug that causes you to click through the plug-in GUI is really starting to get on my nerves too.

Post

I got audio stutters, drop-outs and rapid-fire clicks - all in the same track. I tried to repeat the glitches and got very similar errors but randomly dispersed through the track. This continued for the entire demo project.

I asked the songwriter to take a break and looked everywhere: cables, jacks, peripherals, ac adapters, ground problems etc. I stripped everything out of Tracktion and emptied the vst folder but the glitches remained. Frustrated, I did a complete system maintenance routine using onyx and disc warrior but no luck. Finally, I dumped the tracktion application and drag installed my last known "stable" release 1.5.1.16. Now that I've got a little more time, I'll probably go on up to 1.5.16 again and see what happens. I've got another session tonight.

Like I said, I'd seen posts from others but didn't take it seriously until now. For the record, I'm recording long stereo takes in 16 bit for these demos so system performance was not the issue.

Same here. I have also discovered that the last version causes stutters, hickups and dropouts. I thought it was caused by racks, or certain plugins, but i've reinstalled the version 1.5.1.16 and the stutters are gone.

hi james,

no you are right, this is a bug in the sampler i reported often and was never been fixes. it has something to with notelenght...

Post

I have same problems with my v1.6.0.1 version.

Somebody have tracktion v1.5.1.16 ?! i cant find it on the net. PM me if u can help.

Post

I got the audio glitches with nothing at all running - no sampler, no vst, no vsti. I recorded a single track of audio and got glitches on playback. I played the audio files in another app and they had glitches in the same places so I know they were recorded into the file.

This is the kind of thing that would have gotten some kind of response before from Jules. Please, let us know that you're aware of this and will address it in the next update.

Thanks.

Hi folks, sorry I've been a bit quiet - I was ill, then away all last week, now jetlagged and busy..

This sounds odd - I can't think of any audio changes that would make any difference to playback. If there's no filtering happening, then it's got to be some kind of wierd audio driver priority thing. Did you say what soundcard you're using?

Couple of things I'd need to know - if you put the v1.5 and v1.6 exes in the same directory and make sure their settings are the same, is there really a difference? And has anyone else seen the same thing with the soundcard you're using?

Unfortunately it might be one of those problems that I can't do anything about because I can't replicate it..

Post

Thanks Jules.

Well, I'm Mr. Lowend here - using the built in sound card on my powerbook and recording at 16 bit.

Thing is, I've never had ANY problem with this (audio glitches) in previous versions going back to last fall when I downloaded the first mac beta.

I do understand that it's practically impossible to fix something if you can't replicate it so I suppose the best strategy for me is to wait it out until the next mac update comes along.

Do you have any idea why Mackie hasn't posted any information for Final Mix support on the mac? Is this something you are involved in? I imagine not. I ask because I hope that, if and when THAT is released, there may be some unexpected effect on general audio. It's now been nearly 3 months since Mackie posted the 1.6.0.1 update describing Final Mix as pc only with a mac version "coming soon".

Thanks again. Hope you get to feeling better.

P.S.
I still rave about the program to everyone I meet. This weekend alone, I converted another 2 users from older versions of Logic and Digital Performer respectively. Those program's bloated feature sets and poorly designed GUI's just aren't friendly toward actually making music. I showed two friends how I record quickly and efficiently. Presto.

Faced with the upgrade costs to continue using those apps, they came to the same conclusion I have: that Tracktion is the best option on the Mac for mid-level audio recording and production.

Post

Wow - I was expecting you to say you were using some bizarre soundcard on a PC, but if it's a powerbook, then that really is strange - I use the built-in sound on mine all the time and never had a glitch. You've not just lowered the latency too far, have you?

And I know that Mackie have got someone actively porting their Acuma Labs code over to the Mac, but don't know what stage they're at with it (or what they're planning to do with it when it's ready).

Hey Jules, nice to see you out and about again.

Just registered for this forum today, but I've been using Tracktion since Feb 04. I'm also getting glitches with 5.1.16 and 6.0.1. Usually at bar 50, 52, 54, etc. I've only noticed it recently with Luxonix Ravity instruments with arpeggios. Noting the above advice from Jules, I've fiddled with the ASIO latencies and the pitch of the glitch decreases (and glitch gets longer) with increasing latency but even at max latency possible on slider I still get the glitch.
I can't revert back beyond 5.1.16 because I've got Hypersonic which doesn't work well before then.
It's very annoying and has already prompted me to remove Arp instruments from tracks, or try to write shorter tracks, but 50 bars ain't long!
I'm on a PC with Creative Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card.

Yeah, I think it has something to do with long continuous audio recordings. My errors tend to show up anywhere from 30 to 50 seconds in.

I've not touched the latency settings. They are still at factory defaults!

Sadly, I've now had the glitch in 1.5.x too - only once but VERY clearly there. Suspecting hard drive problems, I ran another complete round of system utilities this afternoon. About the only thing left to try on my end is to dump the preferences file and erase every last Tracktion support file before reinstalling. I'm not sure why this would be necessary but in the interest of troubleshooting, I'll give it a shot.
