That's just prejudice, crusherX is totally musical if you want it to be. It just has a steep learning curve and is packed with features.chk071 wrote: Fri Jan 18, 2019 10:44 pm So... Crusher-X is the best granular VST, and nothing even comes close to it. But it's totally unmusical. Mmh.... not good.![]()

What about HALion 6? I don't have it, but Simon has said good things about it in the past.

Even if it still has bugs and is abandoned maybe i like Dust the most, followed by some creative iOS apps which makes it more fun to play with the waveforms directly like Spacecraft Granular, Borderlands etc.
I find tools like crusher x sounds just terrible mostly and really not musical at all and the GUI is the worst part and no fun to use at all. I prefer filtered white noise here

I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

a decent modern GUI. I find it unusable as isimrae wrote: Sat Jan 19, 2019 9:48 am Not sure why we've only had one mention of Absynth? What do people think it lacks?
plus it really needs a sound quality refresh... it's been lapped a couple times.

Re cosmosf:
Stochastic just means that the sampling of the input or the distribution of midi notes as well as almost all parameters can be made to follow various stochastic formulas. The work of Xenakis was a big inspiration to the developer.
Its a very great synth and effect. Updates are regular and free/cheap. Even steeper learning curve than crusher x though...
I used it as primary and in many tracks only synth on this album

I remember trying Cosmosƒ years ago and found it producing lot of annoying clicks and glitches in the sound, not in a good way at all. If I recall well Simon (Sampleconstruct) even had to run a denoiser after it to get rid of the nasty clicks.
Is it still in there or it's been fixed since?

Another great granular vst effect is Litote from Inear Display.
Unfortunately it produces clicks and crackles to the processed signal on my machine, this is why I stopped using it.
