If you can live with a few less waveforms, and a sub oscillator, instead of a third oscillator, there is this, from u-he: https://u-he.com/products/tyrelln6/ It's even sporty, according to their website. :ud:

Why do you look for an alternative though? V-Station is available for only a fiver, from an older issue of Beat magazine: https://www.falkemedia-shop.de/sound/beat/beat-03/2016 Choose "ISO" in the dropdown menu, if you want to purchase the issue, then you get the DVD content, plus the magazine issue as a digital file (i think).

I really need 3 (saw) oscs for programming 1-finger-chords :(

I own the V already since 200X :-) But after the update to 64 bit it has too much bugs.

Also the sine is not really a "clean" sine, the click-attack-problem somebody (you?) mentioned, only 8 voices (problems when playing unision chords) etc.

You're right, it is fairly limited. Anyway, if you need all the features plus more, i'd recommend to get a fitting (sound you find pleasant) payware synth. I never really got happy with freeware. Most will give you what you ask, 3 or 4 oscillators, a lot of envelopes and LFO's etc.

Just checked; and low and behold: Novation released an update for the V-station late last year (2.6 10/2018) - not bad that 15 years later, it's still being at least marginally supported -

Post

Totally missed that update... thanks for the info. I'm a bit puzzled though, i thought the master volume, which they supposedly fixed in the 2.6 version, wasn't supposed to be saved with the patch. It never worked for me, even in version 1.7, which is stone old now.

You're welcome, chk071! :) I was pleasantly surprised to see the update, although I wonder how many people are using V-synth regularly enough to submit bug reports to Novation - who may not be getting a truly accurate picture of how their V-synth soft is doing 'in the wild' -

It's a crowded field, for sure. But the strength of a soft like V-synth is that in 2019: it's going to be super-easy on your cpu - which brings up an idea for a fun test: I wonder how many instances of V-synth could be run on a i7/i9 computer before it's maxed? Maybe 100's -

Post

You mean V-Station, not V-Synth. :)

Not bad ignoring significant bugs since years (voices + midi LEDs out of function, arp not synced to host).
:dog:

I have a feeling that they're not so much ignoring those. Rather that noone really reports those.

I reported this once (years ago) in the Novation forum but...

Maybe you have to contact them via mail...

Looks like the coder of the V is not working there anymore and so only once a year somebody is doing some small bugfix :(

Post

Yeah, email is always better than forum. AFAIK, Novation don't even have a forum anymore.

I reported the voices LEDs bug months ago, too. Acknowledged in reply but nothing happened after that.

Post

Ah... well. I guess they know about it then, but, are reluctant to do very much about the plugins after 15 years. :) Guess we can be happy that those are still updated at all.

I always hoped they'd bring the Ultranova as a VST. At least, after some time has passed after they released the two hardware synths. But, i guess they're not interested to go back into the software biz at all.

:hihi: You're right, ED. Wouldn't that be something if we were talking about a software version of the V-synth? Maybe someday. Back OT: I wonder if the original coders of the V-station are even around? And IMHO a no-brainer subject about the V-station that I've already brought up (it would likely help *all* of us): what could kickstart bug fixes & updates for the venerable V-station would be if Novation ported it to the ipad - the latest generation of iPads are ridiculously powerful; someone using Auria as their portable DAW could probably run several instances of V-station in the app -

Post

:hihi: - just sent a request in the form of a review of their Launchpad software in Apple's app store to port the V-station to the ipad. Their Launchpad app was just updated a day ago - Focusrite is actually doing the dev (or responsible for it - most dev done in iOS is outsourced). Regardless: mentioned our discussion here - brought up that there are some bugs that need to be addressed (for years, now) - I'm skeptical that anything will come of it; but maybe somebody with a brain @ Novation will catch wind and see the potential for additional revenue & cross-platform tie-in and exposure.
