Deep Purple/Ritchie Blackmore - Kentucky Woman

"Favorite Guitar Solo"

thats exactly what you got, like it or not ;)

Post

The Velvet Underground - Rock n Roll

Duno about favourites thats tough , but it's up there.

Have to add to the list Rick Vito's solos (especially the second one) on Bob Seger's "Like a Rock". Forget that the song's been a Chevy jingle for the last 10 years, Vito plays a wailing slide solo that'll give ya goosebumps, and it complements the song as opposed to being a wank-fest.

My all-time favorite: Terry Kath's solo on Chicago's "25 or 6 to 4" (the original, not the lame remake they did in the 80's)

Steve Hackett's solo on Genesis' "Firth of Fifth"

Allan Holdsworth's solo on UK's "In The Dead of Night", "Nevermore" and "Mental Medication"

Robert Fripp's solos on Peter Gabriel's "White Shadow" and David Bowie's "Fashion"

Andy Summer's cool 3-note solo on The Police's "Omega Man"

The Edge's solo on U2's "The Electric Co"

Todd Rundgren's solos on Meatloaf's "Bat Out of Hell" and Utopia's "Caravan"

And of course (I can't believe nobody mentioned this)...

Johnny Ramone's (RIP :() classic one-note solo on The Ramone's "I Wanna Be Sedated" 8)

Robert Fripp's guitar work on "Starless and Bible Black" is some of the most articulate picking I've ever heard.

Even if you slow it down and transcribe it, you won't be able to play it cleanly at real time.

There was no "the" in Buzzcocks :D Great tune tho'.

Best solo - Beatles: "All You Need Is Love", cracks me up every time.
Pardon me--but the BEST guitar solo(s) the Buzzcocks ever did were the dueling leads on "Noise Annoys"--doncha think? :D

My personal fave guitar solo?

Buck Dharma--apparently touched by God--no, Satan, what was I thinking--at the end of "Dominance of Submission" on Blue Oyster Cult's "Secret Treaties". By the end of that raveup I am ready to fall on my knees and smell the glove. :hail:
Other faves include:

Robert Fripp on "21st Century Schizoid Man" And "St. Elmo's Fire"

Jimmy Page on "Heartbreaker" (2nd solo) and "Black Dog"

Tom Verlaine on "Marquee Moon"

Pete Townsend on "I Can See for Miles"

Post

Allan Holdsworth - 5 to 10
Steve Vai - For the Love of God
Frank Zappa - Pink Napkins
Frederik Thordental - Z1-Reticuli
