It should be said that they might have grace periods if your subscription ran out just before the update like they had with other updates (as I've been told by other people who's gotten an update after it ran out).

Can one make midi devices?

Oh it would be so smart if they would make that 1 of the priorities. That would be "The Bitwig Way" to do things, indeed.
They would tackle all the valid criticism about not being a mature composing DAW in 1 graceful sweep.

Either way, they should really be careful and clear with how they word this.

Just compare what they do with release date - they're "targeting Q2" and that's a smart statement, but on the downside puts the "anyone who owns Bitwig right now" into even more shaky territory.

BTW, I'm writing all this because I care about Bitwig and don't want to have to go around forums and FB and explain to people that "no, despite what they said your plan unfortunately ran out and you need to buy the upgrade"

yeah. iirc i got the 2.4 update although my plan did run out a bit before that.

So far the gui looks amazing and I'm very hopeful for the future development of The Grid!

However, the actual audio tools so far look slightly limited. In the oscillators section in the second video I only saw sine/triangle/square/sawtooth and couldn't see any other sound source type options in the other groups. I'm unsure at this point how deeply ingrained the phase side of things is, hopefully we can at least manipulate these oscillators a lot by screwing with phase signals before "running" the oscillators? Also doesn't look like we'll be able to get crazy with samples yet, which is a huge part of what makes Reaktor an interesting environment for me.

It does look like a fantastic framework though with so much potential.

True, it isn't.

But still many Bitwig users and majority of people interested in Bitwig complain and don't understand the licensing policy/plan, so they should be extra careful & precise.

And BTW, that exact thing you quoted is misleading. It should read: "Bitwig Studio 3 is free for everyone with an active Upgrade Plan at the moment its released" because - believe me - many people will understand that as in "active" NOW.

And that's also something that could be construed from the video on previous page, where Dave says:

It's included for anybody who has Bitwig. So if you're a current user, you'll get it on day one.

Dunno. Thought Dave reacted pretty much in the right way in just carrying on. Par for the course to get a few bugs. And We’ll get similar things during the user beta.

This second video above really shows to me the beauty of UI they've designed here. I'm also really pleased to see there's still a strong focus on touch ability.

Some people complain about the overall UI. It might not be everyone’s style, which is completely fair. And it’s pretty clear that they didn’t spend most of their energy on creating nifty visuals. To your point, it does feel like the UI makes things easy and quick to do without overthinking anything. And it’s not just because Dave is used to doing it.

What’s precious in this one is that the camera person didn’t perceive what’s on screen to be that important. But we did get to check out a few more items from the list of modules (which is obviously not finalized as Dave keeps saying that the 120 number is just what it is right now).

Seems like it may need another type of grid for that (midifx) or it way just work with ploy grid...you seem to be able to build sequencers, so that may be midi in (effect) midi out already?

Good point on what might become MIDI FX. Pairing the sequencer-type modules (pitches, gates, steps, probabilities) with modulators and Note FX devices, maybe we could hack together some MIDI FX? We’re already fairly close.
It’s interesting that Dave was hesitating on the number of grid types (and he did specify that these are the three types right now). Sounds to me like he wasn’t sure other types had made the cut for this version and MIDI FX is the next logical type since CV is already taken care of.
Since it’s the same list of modules for all three grid types, the difference between the three intrigues me. They probably expect different I/O but was that distinction necessary in a system which already uses the same signal for everything?

I have asked on the bitwig facebook site, if it is possible to manipulate midi notes too! One Bitwig official said, that at this point the mainly focus is on audio and modulation signal. But The Grid concept can be expanded in all direction...
