Routing MIDI to another track.

I’ve got an audio looper plugin (Möbius) that I control via a MIDI foot controller. I can’t seem to figure out how to route incoming MIDI to a different or multiple tracks.

Under MIDI devices, create a virtual linked to the real MIDI interface; this can then be sent to an alternate track.
(Or use a rack; and I think there's another way to do it as well, but I've forgotten)

Plugin Racks work well for routing MIDI controllers to multiple MIDI tracks. In > out > out ... etc.
The simplest way is to do this:
1. Drag a plugin rack (+Plugins > Plugin Racks > New from preset > MIDI channel splitter) onto the first MIDI track, prior to the instrument plugin.
2. In the pop-up plugin UI, click on the plus (+) on the far right under outputs. Select "Add to track" > pick the additional track you want to control, and the plugin rack will be copied to that track.
2a. Optionally, there is a drag button below the (+) that you can use to just drag the plugin rack to any extra track you want to control.

Thanks. I think my problem had more to do with Waveform being odd with MIDI input channels. I sorted it out without using the router.

How did you send the controller to multiple tracks without using a rack?zerocrossing wrote:Thanks. I think my problem had more to do with Waveform being odd with MIDI input channels. I sorted it out without using the router.

Go to midi devices, create a virtual, then give it a name and tell it which MIDI interface you want to duplicate.

Cool! Didn't realize you could do that. Thanks!Peter Widdicombe wrote:Go to midi devices, create a virtual, then give it a name and tell it which MIDI interface you want to duplicate.

I suppose that's one of the downsides of any software that pretends to be simple but has so much under the covers... The features are often there, but to get at them it's not always where you think it would be...
Plus the fact that a few of the useful actions (zooming and moving tracks in particular) are somewhat inconsistent; and for anyone who's tried to use Tracktion with just a laptop touchpad may get frustrated. Not having that mouse wheel is a pain.

That use case does not seem to be outlined in the user manual. I got that it was to be used for adding kwerty keyboard input.Peter Widdicombe wrote:I suppose that's one of the downsides of any software that pretends to be simple but has so much under the covers... But after using the virtual MIDI inputs for a while now, I find I like them much more then using plugin racks for sending my MIDI controller to multiple tracks. Much more elegant, and the virtual inputs are always ready to be assigned with one click in any edit have opened. Bonus: the mixer area is less cluttered!
I am totally track pad challenged. I get frustrated after a few minutes trying to use any app that way.Plus the fact that a few of the useful actions (zooming and moving tracks in particular) are somewhat inconsistent; and for anyone who's tried to use Tracktion with just a laptop touchpad may get frustrated. Kind of hate to revive this thread but this saved me a lot of headaches so saying "thank you!"...I could not figure out how to send midi from Max (via LoopMIDI) to multiples inputs...I love being able to assign virtual midi inputs!

As a thread revivor (??), for posterity, could you list a step-by-step of a basic way to do this? (I think I personally understand, but it wouldn't hurt to capture "tribal knowledge" for others searching for the answer). Thanks!zklaus wrote: Thu Jan 24, 2019 12:36 am Kind of hate to revive this thread but this saved me a lot of headaches so saying "thank you!"...I could not figure out how to send midi from Max (via LoopMIDI) to multiples inputs...I love being able to assign virtual midi inputs!![]()

Wow, thanks...I had to go back and try and remember how I did that. When I did, I happen to figured out -finally- how to route Max midi effects patches into Waveform no need for MaxForLive *or* Ableton.
So sure, no problem
...for just routing midi to multiple inputs go to:
Settings > MIDI Devices > click Create New Virtual Input and type in a name for the input (name it anything). Do that for each additional track you want to route MIDI to. I attached some screenshots as well.
Now the process of configuring the other piece of software/gear you are routing MIDI from will be different I would guess. I use LoopMIDI (https://www.tobias-erichsen.de/software/loopmidi.html) to do this with Max, it's a virtual midi cable. It took me a while to figure out how to do that and I'm still learning what is the best way. Let me know if you are a Max user and I'll go into that. Main thing is to remember to choose the name of the virtual input in LoopMIDI for the track you want to route to in Waveform....myVirtualMIDICable in LoopMIDI *to* myVirtualMIDICable Waveform Input on track #1...etc...etc..
Hopefully that's not too confusing.

FWIW, and totally unrelated to this post...everything works perfectly except I get stuck notes on my vst synths from time to time when I stop the recording...not sure why....

And just to add, you do not need to use a virtual MIDI cable, although that would work.
You can use your actual MIDI controller port as the source for your virtual MIDI devices in Waveform, then create as many as you need and assign them all to tracks as needed. One input to control them all!
