Apple to recent purchasers of Logic 6: f**k off

No, you don't have to punish yourself. Get a Windows or a Linux machine. The Apple devotees believe there own propaganda. Macs are not the best machines, the Mac OS is not the best operating system, Logic is not the best sequencer. Much of the best software doesn't even run on the Mac--that's punishment enough--and for that you have to pay through the nose. Apple has you convinced that fewer options for more money is what you want and you believe them. Check out the L-Rock machines if you want really highend equipment, check out Linux or XP Pro for really stable operating systems and check out Nuendo if you want a really highend production system.[/quote]
I have NO loyalty towards Apple. I have a Mac because I use two pieces of software that are not available on PC. While I haven't used any version of Cubase in a few years, or Cakewalk, I just have a hard time believing that these applications offer me what I get from Logic. At least the were far inferior (to my mind) a few years ago. I know Logic and I think it's an excellent product. I also use and like Numerology which is not available on the PC. You say Nuendo is superior. Frankly, I doubt it. And I had some experience with steinberg in years past, and I think they suck also. the notion of switching to PC so that I can drop Logic to pick up a steinberg product to prove my unloyaty is ridiculous. I happen to like the Logic environment, think that it presents great MIDI flexibility and is quite intuitive. I always found Cubase to be quite inflexible comparatively.
Your suggestion is really quite ludicrous. You seem to be saying that I should go out and spend LOTS of money because I'm mad at Apple. That's silly. I hold no illusions about any large corporation. I can still be mad at them. I am not loyal because I choose to remain on a Mac at this point. I would not be a 'loyal' PC user if I switched.
I wonder why you would essentially attack me because I make a simple point. I'm pissed at Apple because of their upgrade policy. You seem to be showing far more 'loyalty' to your platform than I have towards mine.

I had a Linux laptop for a while a couple of years ago. IBM thinkpad. Never figured out how to get it to play sound. My system guy managed it, at the cost of a weekend's work and half a dozen kernel patches.
Connecting to an unknown wireless network required editing some deep down system file.
I've seen people with Linux on an IBM or Dell laptop, to this day! who can not put their laptop to sleep; they have to reboot every time.
Linux would be great if it didn't have to deal with actual hardware.
All these people with Windows driver problems? Almost anything I stick in my Mac (camera, microdrive card, printer, floppy drive) works. In fact, I don't reemmber the last time something didn't work.

So basically Apple, as a large corporation, has carte blanche to do whatever it wants to it's customers?? Funny...I've never seen such an anti-Bush forum turn Republican so quickly.shamann wrote:The point is that your relationship with Apple ended with your previous transaction. I have a friend who bought the logic 6 pro a day before
logic 7 online.. and Apple send him e-mail saying that they will
send logic 7 instead of logic6.
So he was lucky but for me, I bought the logic6 pro about 3 weeks
ago.. no discount.
I have to pay full upgrade fee.
it's really not fair.
I do have cubase SX2 and I have upgraded every time new version
come out. I understand that SX1 and SX2 user pay same upgrade
price. for SX3... I totally understand it and it is OK with me.
But... I just had logic for 3 weeks. and I have to pay another $300??
when I bought logic 6 I had no idea about logic 7 coming.
If I knew I would wait but now I'm piseed off.
If I at least had this for 3 month I won't be pissed off.
but after 3 weeks? I DO NOT expect free upgrade but at least
discount price like $100~150.
what are they thinking?

So in other words you're saying that if you don't want to be shafted then don't buy Apple products?shamann wrote:My point was never a call to abandon large corporations, just know what they are and how they operate in advance. I simply can't see why some people think that is contradictory. DO NOT open that box! As long as the shrink wrap remains sealed you at least stand a chance of being able to return/exchange the upgrade. I don't know where you are so I've no idea what consumer law on distance selling might be in your neck of the woods but as soon as you crack open the cellophane, you're entirely dependent on the good will of Apple...snod911 wrote:Yeah, I spoke to a friendly woman at Apple today who indicated that there was really no one at Apple she could point me to who would be able to resolve this issue. If enough people complain maybe we can do something about this.
I haven't even opened my box and it's still shrink-wrapped. Anybody else have any ideas? Any Apple-ers on this forum who can help?

i don't use logic - used 2 use 5.5 at afriends house, quite liked it, anyways. My brother (mac to the core) bought pro around 6 months ago & he also heard (don't know where) that some third party plugs would have trouble with logic 7 - so he is obviously waiting 2 see what happens b4 he upgrades, as he was stung once already moving 2 osx & losing the functionality of some plugs n vstis. don't know a great deal about apple really, but one thing that strikes me is the blithely uncaring & possibly even arrogant way they seem 2 change the os - or functions within a program in this way so that third party products don't work, they've done it b4 & will likely do it again, as others have noted here & elsewhere - because they can, as their user base is locked into the hardware/software proprietary system they have. as a pc user i'm still using software i bought years ago win95 & 98, it's nice to have that option isn't it?

Actually, come to think of it, my statement "How's that for German customer service from a California company?" is a bit unfair. In fact, if I recall correctly, Ableton recently offered discounted upgrades to Live 4 to folks who had bought Live 3 recently (within 6 months or something). But not Apple. Apparently Apple can't see the "Logic" in giving people a reason to upgrade *now* without fearing they'll get screwed if a new release is announced a week later.
Wonder if there's anybody out there at Apple reading this.

Damn... If only Propellarheads had produced Reason 3.0, I could have:
1. Kept my G4
2. Not bought Live
3. Not bought Logic, Platinum, Pro, 7...
4. Not bought all the VSTs/AUs, etc. last 6 months
But... instead, here I am going further down the rabbit hole... Ughhh!

Unfortunately, if that was true anyone could sell their licenses freely. Instead, it seems to be a one side agreement, where the customer has all the obligations, and the provider none.shamann wrote: ... The Logic/Apple guys don't have to work to keep their customers fidelity? They really do believe so? That's sheer arrogance and comercial suicide; ask any marketing student. So, return the Logic box? Only that? Return the Mac together, I say.
By the way, I am a PC owner, sometimes I have a madness attack and begin thinking about getting a Mac too. Not anymore. Thanks you for this thread, guys.
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

Obviously you shouldn't buy anything with an Apple logo on it unless you are comfortable with Stevo's prong in your fundament. Most Apple customers seem quite happy with it there it seems.
Before Jobs returned, Apple set up a scheme guaranteeing long term support to Apple customers who paid a subscription. After Jobs return he changed the rules leaving a lot of these people in the lurch. Someone within Apple asked him - what about all these loyal customers. "f**k Them" replied Jobs.
The scuttlebutt about the Newton is that it was Spindler's baby and Jobs was determined to axe it and screw all Newton owners - just out of spite toward Spindler.
So make your choice - Apple has a long history of this stuff. Continue rewarding them for it and they will keep doing it.
Good luck to those wanting some consideration over their recent purchases.
