telecode wrote: Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:27 pmThere are already Jupiter VST's on the market in the form of Arturia's Juputer 8 V2 and the Jup 8 V3 and Rolands Jupiter 8 softsynth products. What would the hopes or expectations of an end user be in having yet another company make another VST based on the Jupiter synth?
I said, it wasn't likely to happen. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice ;)
telecode wrote: Wed Feb 06, 2019 1:27 pmMore resource friendly? A product that isn't quite an accurate homage to the Jupiter but a more modernized interpretation of the sounds? A cheaper alternative? Just wondering.
Mainly, because u-he does emulations done right, at the level of detail they went into for Repro. Now, Repro is mainly the result of Urs' interest and passion in learning about synths and analog modelling at the time, and because of his personal interest in the Pro-1.

As I said above, the Roland plugin version is a good model, but usability is rather poor as they are still quite naive implementations of an interface, and CPU usage is high because they calculate the CPU based on all voices sounding at once, even if only a few (or none!) are sounding. Still, besides that, it does sound good. (The Arturia version is not in the same ballpark, here.)

*If* Urs had an interest in pursuing more recreations at some point, *and* if he was super into the JP8, that would be great, but, at least for now, he's indicated that his interests lie elsewhere. Besides, I think we're on the long-tail down-slope of modelled reincarnations anyway...

chk071 wrote: Wed Feb 06, 2019 2:49 pm Am i correct assuming that... Minimoog = ladder filter, Juno-60 = Cascade filter, ??? = Multimode filter, Bite = MS-20 filter, and Uhbie = OB-X filter?

Having a bit of a hard time figuring those modes out. Same with the oscillator modes. Ok, Triple OSC is the MM, Digital is the JP-8k, not sure about the other ones, though.
Oscillators:
Triple VCO = Moog Minimoog Model D
Dual VCO = Roland Jupiter 6 (In analog 2 mode), Roland Jupiter 8 (In analog 1 mode)
DCO = Roland Alpha Juno 2/Juno 60 (The Juno 60 only has the the saw wave, the pulse wave and the sub osc, and none of the additional PWM waves)
Dual VCO Eco = Korg MS-20
Digital = Roland JP-8000 (With a lot of improvements)

Filters:
Ladder = Moog Minimoog Model D
Cascade = Roland Juno 60 (In rough mode), Roland Jupiter 8 (In clean mode)
Multimode = Roland Jupiter 6
Bite = Korg MS-20 (Both revisions)
Uhbie = Oberheim SEM
The ladder, cascade and multimode filters have additional 2-pole LP modes, which the originals don't have.

Envelopes:
ADS = Moog Minimoog Model D
Analogue = Roland Juno 60, Roland Jupiter 8
Digital = Roland Jupiter 6 (With switchable quantization and curvature behaviour)
Thanks. :tu:

We have like 10 of them, but they're all NFR (sic!)

As people have been confabulating about the possibility of a Diva upgrade, my thoughts are: This time around we first make Repro-level accurate models of each synth whose parts we include, then merge these parts into Diva. Such that, as part of a quality assurance protocol, we can directly compare Diva and whatever she impersonates. But that'll probably take a year or two too many.

I’m good with the sound and the utility. I don’t feel like I need the 100 percent nostalgia trip. The only thing I find missing are those neat little multicolored buttons above the J8 keyboard, and I can live without them. That’s just me, though

Surely Hans Zimmer is the man to talk to for cheap hardware.

I cannot resist the Repro offer - my first u-he product.

Why not do it incremental with a small upgrade fee for each newly modelled synth you add? Like first do the ms20 parts and when these are finished add the newly modelled ms-20 as an upgrade for like 10-15 bucks.

I think if we wanted Diva to become an accurate interpretation of those synths, it would have to be a new plug-in. We would have to add an option to tweak parameters "as they were on the original hardware" or "consistently mapped across module options". We would have to rethink the whole thing. And we can't do it step by step, it would need to be a big messy puzzle that we would have to somehow glue into a shape that works.
