Greetings- I find myself a bit unclear about the workings of the Play interface. I've taken my preset from here...

...and switched the three polyphonic sequencers to "Play" mode by ticking the appropriate property in each.



In the second scene, I copy/pasted note data into a "new pattern" for "Rhythm" (R2), and for the other two patterns "128th note sequence" and "ascending", I duplicated then "changed alias into pattern".

I can trigger scene 1, which plays as expected, but triggering scene 2 plays "R2" and the other two clips from scene 1. In other words, "NS2" and "A2" aren't being played as part of the scene.

Could someone--if this isn't a completely confusing post--explain how I can get what I want? Also, I don't really know what the "dot" means to the left of the titles for those two clips, and why they're different than the triangular "play" icons adorning the other clips? Thanks!

Hi Charles, have a look at "Conduct" in properties for "NS2" & "A2". I think the "dot" means its "Conduct" is set to something other than "Play".

Hi Mannymang- Thanks, you’re right about that. My trouble now is that the sequencers are under control of the Play logic, and my graph logic seems to do nothing. There must be another property of the Play panel or Pattern that I have to set it control. I’ll come back to this tomorrow when I’m fresher.

As mannymang has said, the conduct dictates what controls the sequencers. If you want to control them from the graph and use the modulation inlets, you must set it to "Modulate"; to control them from the play ui, set it to "Play".

That makes sense. It seemed after I'd quit for the day yesterday that there would be pattern outlets I'd passed over that would give me the desired control. Now, before a first cup of tea, "Pattern Out"'s function is pretty obvious, but I'm less clear on the three inlets for "Modulate".

What are the respective functions of?
. write pattern index
. play pattern index
. play pattern control
What kind of input do they expect?

EDIT: Ok, I see that "play pattern index" sets the pattern to be played. It's important that the transport is on for this to work.

"Play pattern control" seems to want True/False, which then performs whatever action is set in the Control Action property. You need False for the Gate action to work properly.

Still unclear about "write pattern index".

Also, while I have folks' attention, how would I setup a simple Play sequence: where one scene finishes, play moves to the next scene, and at the end of the 2nd scene, play returns to the beginning of the first scene? In other words a multiple scene loop?

"write pattern index" is the inlet that specifies to which pattern any following writes will be written. This means you can be playing one pattern whilst writing to another, for example.

As for a multiple scene loop, I have a feeling that there is no easy way of doing that as it stands. I've had other requests for various state transitions between scenes, so I will at some point get around to adding it in. I've not tried it myself - and this is a bit around the houses - but could you use remote mappings to launch the scenes, and then send these mappings the relevant values in a loop? Maybe an [aux sequencer] > [switch 1to N] > [trigger source], with one trigger source per scene.

Obviously, the "modulo/shift" portion is a do nothing, simply providing a signal to make the tuple. But you can take it out of the signal flow and still get the odd sequence. Eventually, pulling it all the way out, you can get correct behavior.

Could certainly be my code, but I'm really scratching my head here.

Also, I've noticed that when I click on an empty space in the Graph canvas, and type to get the quick-list of objects, that typing "==" doesn't bring up any search results. I can type "scalar =" and get the [==] object, but the quick-list won't match "==" inside the string, as it will with something like "string", which will return [concat string], [to string] and [substring] among others.

Hi Colin, wanted to report back about the mixer meters... It's down to 2 possibilities that I can see. One is the audio driver, only happens when Architect is set to "Windows Audio" so far. The other is the video driver?

I had just opened Architect, played a little of the preset, then started TeamViewer and opened a session. After closing the TeamViewer session, with the TeamViewer application still running, going back to Architect, the meters were maxed-out. Thank you!

Like cturner, I wonder about the node search as well. In all other node based software I use, a certain key has to be pressed to open the node list. In Houdini & Cables.gl it's TAB, in some it was SPACE (which wouldn't work in Architect).
This has the benefit of:
a.) leaving all those letters free as shortcuts and
b.) allows to enter whatever letter or special character one needs without colliding with other stuff, since after pressing TAB, the focus is clearly inside of a text field.

For me personally it's also a muscle memory problem, since I hit TAB 50 times a day when working in Architect since I'm so used to it which then actually moves the focus AWAY from the graph so I have to click it again to be able to enter a letter again...
I don't know how others feel about it, but I think I'd prefer having more letters without modifier available as shortcut and be able to enter all kinds of things over the current system.
But I'm heavily biased there so I may be wrong

Noted, thanks. I'll look into getting a TeamViewer setup, and see if I can reproduce. Just to clarify, are you running Architect on the TeamViewer host machine, or client machine?
