I am using FL Studio 12 with Guitar Rig 5 Pro. I've run through most of the metal presets in Guitar Rig and absolutely none of them sounds right, everything is muffled even with EQ's in the setup. I even downloaded presets from setups real guitarists did and no way in hell can I get it to sound like what they are playing. The presets are suppose to have everything already included so why does it sound so s**t? I have no issues with drums and bass, it's just distortion guitar that is absolutely horrible.
If anyone's got a setup they can share/explain to me that would be great. I'm obviously missing something big and I have no idea what or where.

I would be really grateful if someone can explain to me how I get that TEST sound to sound like what the guy in the Youtube video plays.

So, about 2-3 years ago, I dabbled in Guitar Rig, Overloud, ect.
(And met no success. It's always some super thin and harsh tone.)
If no one will tell you yet, the reason is because the way samples are recorded (mid heavy and not super tight) requires that you go the alternative route: Impulse Response Chain!
It may take a half hour or so to understand the concept but to get you started, FL Mixer Signal Chain:
1.->(Optional) Limiter/Compressor [ Recommendation: George Yohnge's W1 Limiter ]
|Note - This is the soften out the direct signal. Once again, the samples are dynamic in range|
2.->(Optional) Tube Screamer [ Recommendation: Ignite Amps TS999 or Mercurial 808 ]
|Note - This is dat glorious distortion pedal. Disable the built in Shreddage screamer and tweak!|
3.->Ampsim of your choice [ There are HUNDREDS, but I recommend Poulin Legion ]
|IMPORTANT - Ampsims are all about personal flavor; some have STUPID high gain or need knobs tweaked. Find what sounds good to you!|
4.->Impulse Response Cabinet/Loader [Recommendation: Ignite Amps NadIR]
|IMPORTANT - This is the big boy. This is where you get the basis of your "tone" before EQing. There are thousands of free impulses you can use, but a starting point is from a vid I'll put at the bottom. It even explains the 'chain' I'm referring to! Sorry if this sounds super complicated and lengthy but trust me, a few minutes of work will go a LONG way.

Sorry, I read through that and didn't understand any of it and then just packed everything up. However, I would like to give this another go seeing that I paid for all this stuff. I downloaded and installed Ignite Amps NadIR but can't figure out how this works with Shreddage 2 and Guitar Rig, and what are the thousands of impulses you are talking about? Also, what is FL Mixer Signal Chain? lol, I am not an engineer of any kind so this still a bit complicated for me.

Try Amplitube, it's decent ... has a lot of options and it's easy to use & understand.
It will require time and effort to forge your tone but you can pretty do anything with it.

Try the new Revalver from Peavy. It has a IR loader and ACT commponets. Watch some vids of it.
Good thing, it is somewhat free. You can test everything with a signal comming every 20 seconds on Demo equipment.
other than that. I use the free IR loader. still testing for a great sound. Try two loaders in the chain.
But the ultimate way to copy a bands sound. Find a 20 sec guitar only part. replay it with Shreddage and create your own IR.
I believe this is Lepou. Check out his channel. Many Amps/IRs and advice.
