T2 taking too long!

I'm going to get a little philosophical here and say that there's no such thing as "perfection" in software (or anything in real life, frankly). No matter what, you'll run into a problem, or an annoyance, or something you have to work around and/or just deal with...

Tracktion is like that for me, it has many good points but places still that bug the heck out of me. However, it is the closest to what I need to do what I want, so unlike many other sequencers that I sold off after a few months of screaming frustration it's staying! :D

Next best appears to be Sonar4, but for the price difference I could buy a couple of killer VSTs and still have beer money for two weeks. :?

Just out of curiosity: Does anybody know how far ahead of the actual release date that Calkwalk and Steinberg actually disclosed any info about what would be coming in their new releases? Or when the release would be?

Also, remember that Tracktion is (as far as I know) still developed by just one guy, while the others have the luxury of teams of developers. Even if Jules did have one or two guys helping him out now, it's still not going to be the kind of resources that I would think Cakewalk or Steinberg have.

I agree - Tracktion 1.6 is pathetic. I'm sure the Beatles had something better than this when they wrote Sgt. Pepper......

Seriously, do you think that updates to other software suddenly make Tracktion no longer usable? It may have its flaws, but I think there is more than enough functionality in it to allow people to write great music. It can be all too easy to get caught up in the upgrade cycle and would it really allow you to write better music if you had T2 today? At the end of the day talent will win through over a few flaws - hence my Beatles reference. I'm sure their recording studio had more than its fair share of flaws, yet that album wasn't too shabby.

Specualtion leads to dismay upon seeing the result. Dismay turns to anger. Anger turns to hatred. Heed the wise words of Yoda and go make some music.

I hate myself for replying to a T2 post.

It seems to be more a psychological effect. Even some music journals argue in this way, with statements like this:

"you can't help feeling that you're using dated technology"

or

"you could call it hardly 'state of the art' any more"

This was *not* said about Tracktion, but every time a new update cycle of the "big players" starts, the competitors are simply forced to follow if they don't want to fall behind... (journal reviews can be very nasty!)

Jules should take as much time as he needs, so we'll have a well rounded and bugfree (....) :D release.
But, being on a mac, I can hardly ignore the (mac only) bugs. They start interfering with the workflow. I am tempted to upgrade to Logic 7, especially since I don't know if T2 will be altivec-optimised. (I can get far more tracks going in Logic than in T, but then also, I can get more tracks going on my 733mhz PIII than on the powerbook)
:nutter:

Anyhow, I do agree there's nothing to stop you from making music with T....... :D

So you haven't been answering to anyone but just shared your agressions. Nice - thanks. :)

I *did* buy Cubase (waaaay before tracktion) and I was just complaining (whining if you like) about a few VERY specific problems that I have with tracktion. Other than those three or four issues, I love it. I wish I could use it for the full production process, but I just can't.
Sorry to offend anyone, I realise that any criticism is sternly policed on this forum and I shall keep it to myself in future.

In the meantime, I hope I still have rpc9943's
permission to post here? Obviously I'll let you approve anything I write before posting to ensure I haven't committed any thought-crimes.

Well, I'm going to complain. Midi sync was supposed to be a couple of months away in Dec 2002. 2 years later it's still not here.

I've just bought Live 4.

:hihi: he might believe he's a moderator on this forum (you know, there are people who are suffering from shizophrenia and such :-o ), but the truth is he isn't. :D

In fact he isn't much longer here than you are.

I shelved trackion like 6 months ago...I really love the idea but I can't sync my Evolver which is waayyy too much fun too miss out on and a constant source of inspiration for me. The Evolver has an analog style step sequencer which sync'd to your host can be a deadly device! I'm still waiting to see what direction mackie takes T2 before I give up on it though....

I was just referring to the post that said:
"it just sucks that now, everey other sequencer has got an update(sonare, logic, live, cubase, etc),yet were still not even knowing what this update(t2) will bring, let alone when it will come."

I agree, it was *not* said, but doesn't this view imply that point? Otherwise, why post a comment like that? Media reviews aside, why should it 'suck' - to this user, not other people - that your host isn't updated when others are? I could be in a minority here, in that I'm fairly happy with Tracktion. There is functionality that is present in other, more expensive hosts that I cannot afford, but that doesn't stop me from getting by in Tracktion. Seeing updates for other hosts has not changed my opinion of Tracktion, and made me think the lack of updates 'suck'. My current limitation is much more likely to be talent than my host holding me back.

Personally, I would prefer Jules to not join in some kind of 'arms race' development, where people rush to bring something to the market in order to remain 'competitive' with others.
