Proper way to uninstall NKS

This is as much a question as it is a heads up to other users.

As there is no uninstaller on U-He products... Wait, what? There shouldn't be an installer if there isn't an uninstaller as well (IMO), but I digress.
As there is no uninstaller on U-He products, the user's manual for (e.g.) Diva tells users where the relevant files are located so they can do it themselves:
Win presets (local) ...\VstPlugins\u-he\Diva.data\Presets\Diva\
Win presets (user) ...\VstPlugins\u-he\Diva.data\UserPresets\Diva\
Win preferences ...\VstPlugins\u-he\Diva.data\Support\ (*.txt files)
Win alternative skins ...VstPlugins\u-he\Diva.data\Support\Themes\ (skin folder)
Mac presets (local) MacHD/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/Diva/
Mac presets (user) ~/Library/Audio/Presets/u-he/Diva/
Mac preferences ~/Library/Application Support/u-he/com.u-he.Diva... (*.* files)
Mac alternative skins MacHD/Library/Application Support/u-he/Themes/ (skin folder)
Mac other resources MacHD/Library/Application Support/u-he/Diva/
Problem is, NI's NKS-related pointers stay in place so that U-He presets are still listed in the Komplete Kontrol interface. The following error occurs when said presets are loaded:
Image
Despite hitting Ignore All, the same error occurs when other Diva presets are chosen.

You can go into KK Prefs -> Plug-Ins -> Rescan, and once you've returned from vacation while waiting for the Rescan to complete, the U-He product you've uninstalled will no longer be listed in the list of plug-ins. But wait, there it is, still sitting in the library:
Image
Sure enough, Diva presets can still be randomly or manually selected... and the error returns as expected.

Time to take matters into my own hands and start deleting U-He related sub-folders that reside in NI parent folders.
Found and deleted the relevant sub-folders from these directories:
C:\Users\Public\Documents\NI Resources\image\u-he
C:\Users\Public\Documents\NI Resources\dist_database\u-he
Success? Nope... Presets still show up, error still occurs, and apparently I've only managed to remove Diva's icon

So, in an effort to distract Urs from the current NI Bundle Super-Preis Aktion :hihi:, can someone please tell me what NI metadata file needs to be edited in order remove a U-He product from the list of presets in KK?

You'd need to remove some registry keys in order to remove it from the list completely. They're found at HKLM\Software\Native Instruments\<name of the product>. And might also check the same path in WOW6432Node for 32-bit stuff.

No luck, but thanks for the suggestion. All Diva entries are now gone from the reg but it's still showing in KK.

Perhaps this can help?

Unfortunately not.

Deleted a u-he-Diva.xml from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Service Center
Also checked inside the KK and other xml files in that folder for any reference to Diva.

When searching my system for any of the Diva preset names (e.g. Sharebear), I only find the folder that has the .ogg preview files: I:\Instruments\Komplete\Previews\Samples\5f8975f8-054c-4c99-b881-e2c31bc5743f\.previews
As expected, removing that folder only deletes the preview files and not Diva's preset entries in KK.
"5f8975f8-054c-4c99-b881-e2c31bc5743f" is possibly an alias for Diva in a relevant NI .xml file but I haven't found it when I do a search for files that contain that text (using FreeCommander for that purpose).

This is more likely to be an NI issue, though I'm sure 3rd party devs like U-He would care about having invalid presets in KK/Maschine after a customer removes a demo product.

I have come across invalid Diva presets in KK for several months now so I finally decided that it was time to make them aware of the issue (assuming they weren't already).

When you select that empty Diva icon can you still see NKS presets? If so multi select them all, rightclick on them, delete

Post

Yes, I can see and multi-select them, but Find in Explorer is the only option (which doesn't open Explorer when chosen)

Of course, I forgot Diva would be in the factory tab not user, unless you have some Diva user patches too? (delete is only possible there). However, you should be able to delete them manually from /Library/Application Support/u-he/Diva/NKS then rescan the database

Post

After doing this, to then delete the Diva path from the Factory tab go to /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Service Center and delete the dixa.xml file

Post

Thanks, but those folders/files are already deleted and Rescan was done w/out success.

In fact, all folders and files that contain "Diva" are gone from my system (I use Everything indexer which can sniff all files quickly).

Post

Removing those registry keys (along with removing the .xml file as aMUSEd said) should've done the trick. I confirmed it works here.

Post

Yeah, it's weird unless there still are a few NKS Diva files not deleted? Maybe delete then rebuild the database?

Post

Ok, thanks for hassling with trying to reproduce... I'll dig through the registry again tomorrow when I'm back at the system.
I've downloaded and then removed the Diva demo a few times over the years so who knows if something got messy along the way.

Update: I performed a reinstall of KK via Native Access and it resolved the issue.

Now that the KK db is rebuilt, I also confirmed (via Satin) that deleting the relevant .xml file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Service Center clears its NKS preset entries.

In summary:
Deleting the xml file should work
If not, reinstall KK
If that still fails, delete the reg keys that ED mentioned and reinstall KK again

Post

Just wanted to validate this (as I just went through this). The sequence must include deleting the reg keys as well as re-install. Thank you so much for sharing this!
